Seeing Luther Allison at Buddy Guy's in Chicago back in the 90's is what finally turned me on to the blues. The man was amazing live. I saw him live just before his brain tumor was diagnosed. He put on a 3 hour show with no break. You would never have any idea that he was sick. Had tickets to see him again later that summer, but unfortunately he passed away before the show happened.

Gary Clarke Jr. is the shit. Just saw him last summer and he was incredible.

Love me some Sonny Landreth as well. Seen him solo once and several times playing with Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer band. One of the best slide players in the business IMO.

I was lucky enough to see Luther (I think he was paying a red Gibson Flying V) and his son, Bernard, at about that same time at a blues festival in Pittsburgh. Bernard is a killer player in his own right.

I caught him in '72 and again in the late '70s, both times in Ann Arbor, and, yeah, he killed.

Anyone got any of the old Chess Masters series? I've got two on vinyl that I've carefully preserved - Muddy Waters' sidemen Little Walter and Jimmy Rogers.

Funny but Derek is looking more like Gregg Allman as he gets older. Yeah I know he's not related but he looks it in that video.

I'm with you. I saw Ana Popovic a couple of years ago at the Mt. Dora Blues Festival, FL and she was fantastic! I didn't take any photos because I was working extra hours that Saturday and a friend from work told me about it and that she was playing at the festival (she headlined) so I went straight from work and didn't have my camera with me. I bought her latest cd 'Can You Stand the Heat' there and really enjoy it. The others I saw last year were Joanne Shaw Taylor, Samantha Fish, and Betty Fox (Fox is from the Tampa area and plays regularly in the Orlando area so I saw her 3 times last year) and bought their most recent cds. All of them are fantastic! Here are some photo albums:

Samantha Fish @ The Henegar Center, Melbourne, FL 04-12-2015: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...1&l=5691a2978a

Seriously? You think SRV was the greatest?

    Hendrix
    Johnny Winter
    Alvin Lee
    Robin Trower
    Leslie West

    That took about ten seconds.

EDIT: But, I'm really not looking for an argument.

Are you looking for contradiction instead?

    Charlie Patton
    Son House
    Robert Johnson
    T-Bone Walker
    Muddy Waters
    Howlin' Wolf
    BB King
    Albert King
    Freddy King
    Buddy Guy

    Also,

    Blind Willie Johnson
    Tampa Red Whitaker
    Blind Lemon Jefferson
    Blind Blake
    Lightnin' Hopkins

And lately, a few albums from a largely unknown blues great name-o' Fenton Robinson:
    Somebody Loan Me A Dime
    I Hear Some Blues Downstairs

If I ever get around to Albert Collins and Luther Allison and Otis Rush and Taj Mahal and Willie Dixon I'm sure I'll like them too.

Bluesrock to me is a different story, but still a lot of great ones.
Hired on to work for Mr. Bill Cox, a-fixin' lawn mowers and what-not, since 1964.

Well, I've always been partial to the second British Blues Boom invasion, like TYA, Chicken Shack, Savoy Brown, PG's FM, etc...

I'm not big (to say the least) on 80's blues, with the notable exception of SRV (and the J. Winter revival thing)

I tried many times the Mississipi/Chicago blues thing (my fave was Muddy Waters)... I find it interesting enough, but TBH, I can't get much into it... Not enough to find space in my shelves for a selection of those pioneering black dudes.

Some are a bit of a stretch as to call them "blues", but yeah, that list more or less encapsulates my blues tastes
