    Early Pop songs about Pot

I grew up in the 1960's and early 70's. Marijuana smoking was already the cool thing to do by 1965. Dylan had already given it to The Beatles, and well we all know what transpired next. I was thinking about some of the first psychedelic music I heard and remember two very distinct songs:

Sunny Goodge Street by Donovan (1965)...and

That Acapulco Gold by The Rainy Daze (1967)

There were many more similar songs in that era, but I forgot most...maybe they are right about that memory thing?
I'm just wondering if any of the old proggers on this site can recall more of those old songs in the days before prog was born? I listened To Donovan's SGS again recently and it has stood the test of time well, and is a classic of early psychedelia with brilliant lyrics.

Neil Diamond - The Pot-Smoker's Song

Probably not what you are looking for, as it's anti rather than pro.

About 95% of all songs by any reggae artists.

Wow. Stereotype much? Most reggae songs are not about ganja.

If you've never heard David Peel and the Lower East Side, you're in for a treat. These guys were hilarious.

Since Walt beat me to the first song that popped into my head (Cab C), "You I'll Be Following" from the 1st Love album ("One of them told me that he was holding", "He had a shoebox, kept it in his ice box")

Pushing Too Hard by the Seeds was supposed to be about either pot or drugs. I don't have the faintest reason why. Perhaps people associated the song title with a drug pusher. Great pop song though. Kind of like psych/garage rock.

Twenty posts & we all forgot (until now) One Toke Over The Line by Brewer & Shipley (I knew Mike Brewer briefly one summer when we were both doing acoustic folk sets at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach).
