Reading should, in theory, cause no issues with the flash drive . . . but having the OS spank me like that makes me wonder.

Having seen dozens of people lose all types of data over the years - I'm careful and usually take the few extra seconds to insure protocol is served . . . but have been guilty every now and then.

Microsoft OS spanks users for no reason all the time.

I hate programs that refuse to give up the thumb drive even after the write is long over, forcing me to restart the program.

Oh right, I see, thanks. I thought it was some new superduper biomechanical drive I hadn't encountered yet.

Flash drives also eliminate the need for green markers, at least where laser leakage is concerned.

I've seen a lot of thumb drives that get physically damaged, especially the kind that slide in/out (like above).

My work truck, a 2015 Chevy Colorado, is Bluetoothed and has a USB port. The interface for the USB has a menu that allows me to browse through folders, artists, albums, genres, composers or songs with 5 lines of info at one time on the screen. The sound system is the best stock system I've ever heard in a fleet vehicle and bests a lot of stock systems in other vehicles frankly.

The company I work for provides the truck. The Nissan Frontier fleet trucks also have a good sounding stereo; the one I used did not have a USB port, but did have Bluetooth. The Ford Ranger I had was radio only with shitty speakers. The systems interface screen in the Colorado displays stereo and environmental info, let's me manage multiple Bluetooth devices and serves as my back-up camera when the vehicle is in reverse.

I used a Staples coupon and got a 32GB drive for $1 and the drive behaves exactly as desired so apparently you were right on the money. Thanks, I never would have suspected formatting.

Mac OS and various Linux OSes give me just as much grief as any Redmond stuff.
