TEE, a flute-front Japanese prog band, 3rd album is on the way!

Great news! Along with TEE, ptf are one of my favorite new bands active in Japan right now.

Naikaku and Pochakaite have officially disbanded, I've read that a member of Flat 122 mentioned that they have not disbanded, but are in a long and deep sleep, though that was about two years ago, so the situation might have changed. Anyway, the guitarist and main composer Hirata have been working with his new band Stella Lee Jones and have several releases (http://www.stellaleejones.com/).

ExhiVison, KBB and Tri-Offensive are still gigging ocassionally. In fact the next gig of ExhiVision is scheduled for Jan 2019.

The last update at the official site of Side Steps says that they are preparing a new album, but that was from June 2017.

There are a few Japanese bands that have gone silent over the last couple of years. Aside from the aforementioned Mongol and Naikaku, I wish KBB, ExhiVision, Tri-Offensive, Flat 122, Pochakaite Malko or Side Steps would still release something. These are all bands that were active after 2000. But I can understand how musicians evolve, they get involved in different projects and they don't want to go back to the style of music played 10-15 years ago.

I have three of them, starting with their self-titled 2008 album. They're OK. A little lightweight for my tastes, but apparently there was enough there to get me to buy all of them and keep them. Must revisit, haven't spun them for a long time.

Very sad so see Pochakaite Malko is no more, but not surprising. Their first album is still a top favorite of mine.

They are close to KBB a little less Jazz but more Synph.

Sounds great. Let's hope Musea plans a release even though, at this time, RYM lists it in digital formt only.

Hi, glad to know this thread is still alive.

The latest activity of TEE was a joint gig with ptf in last August.
Please check on this video clip for a song Keisuke Takashima of ptf had a guest appearance.


TEE has resumed studio works to compose new songs for the 4th studio album.
We are expecting release in 2020.

Wow - that's great to hear about Ain Soph. Interesting to see all of these bands from 30 to 40 years ago (or even 50 - witness Baby Grandmothers this month) suddenly reforming and putting out new - and quality - material. A positive trend.

Hopefully this is a step back to Ain Soph's progressive rock side, because their jazz side as can be heard on Studio Live Tracks '80 and '05 didn't do much for me.

Nothing of Ain Soph's past Story of Mysterious Forest has done anything for me. I'm interested to hear what this new one has to offer, but I wouldn't buy it without hearing samples.

Interesting, thanks for posting. Would be cool to get a live album, especially from the dual-keyboard version of the band. Even better would be some rekindled desire to do an album, but that's probably out of the question.

FWIW, I've been spinning my three TEE albums of late, and they hold up pretty well. Some moments of fluff, but when they dig in, some very tasty Prog/Fusion. Wold definitely grab another one from these guys as well.

Maybe Japanese Prog bands could borrow a few singers from the J-Pop side. The latter are easier on the ears.
