    Pink Floyd in Belgium (68 & 69)

I don't know if there is enough to fill a whole one-hour TV programme, but next monday Dec 28th on the French-speaking TV RTBF 2 at 20h05 local time, Marc Ysaye (director of Belgium's only Classic Rock radio station called Classic 21 and also Machiavel drummer) a story of Floyd's relation with the country, filled with rare pictures, archives and documents. Apparently, this will be centered around the years 68/69 - claiming that Gilmour's first Floyd appearance (I suppose theu mean without Barrett) happened here.

Hopefully, you'll be able to view it in podcast here:

The previous evening, he will apparently air some 1969 Amougies Festival extracts (nothing you won't have seen/heard on YT, most likely) where Zappa jammed with them (Apparently Zappa was the festival's stage presentor as well)...
and there is a six-months webradio project dedicated to the band coming up.

The actual compere was French radio/TV DJ Pierre Lattès, but since Zappa was around - ostensibly as Captain Beefheart's road manager - Lattès asked him to help with English language announcements, and also encouraged him to jam with as many of the acts as he could, which he did not only with Pink Floyd, but also with Caravan, The Blossom Toes, Sam Apple Pie and a number of others.

    Hi Aymeric,

    thanks for this precision...

Most likely, you'll be able to catch the TV show live... Just don't be too shocked with Ysaye's usual fact approximations as he's rather famous for it (for ex: he keeps calling Rory Gallaghher Scottish despite having been corrected a few times)

I wouldn't expect too much unseen footage - those clips of the Floyd fooling about the Atomium miming to Syd Barrett-era songs have been widely seen for years.

TBH, I'm only reading the newspaper hype, but yeah, as I said in my first post, I don't know if there is enough content to actually fill an hour's worth.

But if they found the archives films in the state TV, it could be of better quality than those YT clips. Apparently the Flemish TV helped out (which is a bit of a surprise, because they usually avoid "rock subjects", and they might have found some things as well (and probably even unearth some better-quality Bilzen festival images for future use)

Only saw it last night (I was away in France between the two feasts)

TBH, Ysaye is mostly using the Floyd 50-years anniversary pretext to promote himself, though Belgium knows how much they owe to him for our state-owned classic-radio (he's the one that clinched it)

AFA the archival stuff shown, it's only extracts of those mimed clips, filmed concerts and a rare interview... Overall, I learned a few things, but maybe you won't

It's 42-mins long, sometimes embarrassingly constructed (mixing later music with the late-60's context) and awkwardly-written, but I wouldn't call it a waste of time

Crap! Belgium seems to be blocked from the U.S. They probably want to protect us from their hearty beers and rich sauces.

Can one of you Euro-Commies post it on YouTube?

You only got rights to our over-taxed chocolates.

    Don't have an YT account.

For those who can't access the link, you didn't missed anything essential or original and no unknow/unavailable archives were shown. (or maybe just the half-minute Waters interview which I've never seen before). Also, (as expected) the Ysaye/Floyd ratio is close to 10/2 but if you're mainly interested by great views of his vintage Mercedes car this documentory might be just what you need.
