KBS availability in Michigan went from night to day this year. In years past it was so hard to find. This year I bought a case at Meijers.

Yow. Then I was charged correctly for the 2 four packs. It's just pricey stuff.

Breaking my KBS cherry tonight. Spectacular stuff. Probably the best Stout family beer I've had.

I think they made more of it this year, but it has still been hard to find around Kalamazoo for some reason.

If you ever get the chance you should also try Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout. It ranks right up there too. For Southwest Michigan I still prefer Bell’s Black Note, but they are all great.

Thanks for the tips, Steve. I've never seen those, but we used to do Michigan Beer Tour every year, and it's possible we may do so again.

Both CBS and Black Note are only made occasionally, so they can be very difficult to find. If you need any tips on Michigan breweries feel free to ask. I live in the middle of beer Nirvana.

Yeah, there's a lot of new ones. I stopped by Canton Brew Works on a recent trip to Ikea, but that's the only "new" one in Michigan I've managed to try. New ones are popping up like weeds here in Ohio too, and we've not tried many of those yet either. It's a surfeit of riches for the Craft Beer fan these days.

Wow! And I thought $84.00 for a case of Heady Topper was a lot. Gone are the days when I could buy a case of Genesee Creme Ale or Old Bohemian Pilsner for $4.00. Maybe I should be posting on the Old Cranks thread.

Looking forward to my day in court.

    That's for 12 x 12oz bottles? Yikes.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

^^^'It's really not a bad price. A case of Dogfish Head 120 Minute or World Wide Stout is like $220-230. Yikes!

Lou, $4.00 for a case? That had to have been godawful. We had to do what we had to do.

I had my first one last night too. I am not a stout guy, but my wife and I were both blown away by how good KBS is. Not sure how often I could drink one of those, but I guess that's not an issue since they probably don't hang around long. I split a $22 4-pack with a coworker. I'll give one to my son who loves stouts.

That is correct, Bob, $4.00/case. Now that was in 1978. The Genny Creme Ale wasn't bad, but the Old Boho was rotgut. At the time I was a grad student making $4,000 a year before taxes, rent, gas, etc., so yeah we did what we had to do.

When I was in college the corner store priced its beer on how out of date it was, we were always looking for the oldest thing we could get.

The New Prog Beer Snob Thread

When I was in college at NCSU, we drove up to the VA line to buy Coors and Strohs.

I can remember when Coors was not sold east of the Mississippi and we all thought it was a huge deal. My buddy and I drove to New Orleans for spring break in 84 and as soon as we crossed the river near St. Louis we got off the highway and bought a 6 pack of it to drink on the road. Strohs was a Michigan beer, so it was everywhere growing up.
