Hockey Season Officially starts today at Casa MudShark...

    Isles vs Rangers

And Klonker - I officially lost the Tortorella bet (though I still don't think he'll survive this season) - so let's make plans for beers - we'll meet halfway, either Hillsdale or Westwood

Trust me dude, it's best I won the bet "Election coverage coming up, but first... almost naked lawn guy sparks outrage..."

I'm out of commision until after Christmas as I'm buried in leaf cleanups and rapidly aging full body pain up to that point , but after that I'll be good to go. Look forward to it my man!

PWHL has announced team names and proper colors/logos/etc.
Jersey's have come out now, and they are looking pretty sweet. (The only one I don't like is NY (and boston's looks a little too much like the Kraken for my taste, but logo is cool)

The Toronto Sceptres have moved to a larger venue of 7,779 seats and still sold out every game. Once again, I wasn't able to get tickets.
I'm hoping they release additional tickets closer to game day.

It is looking like Detroit is on the short list for a franchise if and when the league expands. Lots of rumors going around right now.

The league is looking for two expansion teams, to start as early as next season.

Peg City on just an absolutely stunning heater. Just when I think a team finally has their number they find a way to get the 2 points.

    Winnipeg still smokin...

WTF with the Bs firing Montgomery?!
I understand it's not a good look for anyone when you essentially have the same record as the Isles + but for fucks sake + he has a +700 winning pct. I think you can give him until at least xmas especially as the Bs were a wild card when he was let go.

Caps seem to be doing well this year. Since dropping cable I haven't seen any games this year. Ovi looks like he is having a good year and may break the record if he can stay healthy.

Yep, a head scratcher for myself as well. I get that Boston might benefit from a bit of a wake-up call...but I was thinking about maybe a healthy scratch or two or maybe some AHL promotions, not firing a coach who has been damn successful for them.

I never understand when a coach is fired in the middle of the season unless there is something going on behind the scenes that the public does not know about. The Bruins have not been great this year, but they are not terrible either. Head scratcher for sure.

As a Bruins fan, here's my take. It's clear to me that at this point Montgomery has lost the locker room. He's a nice guy, but he's not a particularly great coach. His success has been because of the players, and he's largely just ridden the wave of their success. He botched the decision about goaltending in both of the playoff runs, and now that the team isn't as strong and they need solid leadership, he's not able to provide it, so the team is tuning him out. When that happens, it's time to make a change.

I wish him all the best, but if he were a better coach, the Bruins might well have a cup under their belt in the past two years. I sincerely believe that.

Ovi was just put on IR. I believe its only projected to be a short stint though.

But yes, that record will fall this year which is pretty crazy.

If not for Covid, it may have fallen last year.

Ovechkin has missed 155 games - almost 2 full seasons - due to lockouts and global pandemics. He could have been chasing after goal #1000 now.

Also consider, if he had been born 2 days earlier he could have been drafted one year earlier and played a full season before the 2004 lockout!

Seems an underwhelming return, but I guess they just wanted to dump contract. I wonder if they will name a new captain or be captainless through the season.

Just moments after posting that, I see the rangers signed Igor to a massive contract. So I suppose this was probably the end game.

Good for Igor. Glad to that storyline over.

Lifelong Blues fan, feeling very fortunate the way this played out

The Note hasn't been the same since Monty left the first time as Berube's assistant, but man they have looked like a totally different team since he signed on to lead the re-tool

They collected quite a collection of prospects the past couple of years and stealing Broberg and Holloway for free seems like it will totally accelerate the process, some commented that they had to overpay to get them, but they both totally look like steals, esp Broberg.

The team tanked when Broberg got hurt 4 weeks ago but he's picked up right where he left off.

Crazy up and down season for me already, I was very excited with the good start but those 4 weeks without both Broberg and Robert Thomas were brutal, but it was surprising how Drew Bannister lost the room so quickly, you could only blame the injuries so far

Those two return to Edmonton tomorrow night, going to be a Sunday morning DVR watch, not expecting a warm welcome for them

Less than two weeks ago I was being honest w myself and was ready to write of the season and "boom" Broberg and Thomas both come back early out of nowhere, and we get Monty back.

A coach change bump is expected, but man the last 5 games have been great, got me totally back to playoff level intensity every watch

I'm surprised the Caps are holding onto first place without Ovi.

Rangers basically dump Trouba and double Igor's salary. That's one way to pay for it. There are so few of these long term contracts that work out in the end. Good for Igor, but he takes up a large portion of the cap starting next year. Ranger fans, are you happy? Bob gets $10M, with Swayman, Sorokin and Ullmark getting 8.25.

Yes. He's a top 5 goalie in the league (if not higher) and deserving of the money. Not sure concerned with the cap space issues this could present at some time. If they arise, pretty much worth it to have a goalie solution on a team who's window is (at least in theory) wide open right now.
