I think its great for the game. The winter classic was a nice unique setting but if your team wasn't in it how much attention did you give it? The Rangers were in the last one so I followed it pretty closely especially with the tv documentary leading up to the game as for the others with the exception of perhaps the first one it really wasn't anything special for me as a Ranger fan. Why should the fans or the players for that matter have to wait years to get a shot (no pun intended) at this experience? The players that have done it describe it as a momentous occurrence in their career something they haven't done since childhood. If it wasn't for this most of these guys wouldn't be around if they had to wait years for a chance and some of us fans might now be around either to see it. So I look forward to the opportunity to see the Rangers play next year at Yankee stadium.
I actually do watch it. I also watch all the games during Hockey Day in Canada. HDIC is a day where all the Canadian teams are lined up to play each other (with the exception of one US team because there is an odd number of Canuck teams). The games are usually spread out so that you can watch one game after another. And there are lots of interesting documentaries and vignettes between games and periods. Hubby and I hunker down with some bevvies and snacks and enjoy the day. It's fun to watch a game in this sort of atmosphere, regardless of who the teams are.
Watch the NHL make the call to keep the roof closed at BC place for the Sen-Nucks tilt. Because, you know, nothing is quite as unique than an NHL game played indoors...
^^^Hey, close the roof - it's raining!
You really underestimate the idiocy of Gary Bettman.

Well, the Habs are being totally exposed! And at the worse time of the year! Every playoff contending team in the East must be PRAYING to face them in the opening round! I have to wonder if they'll even win another game this year! No goaltending. No defense. Very little offense. The 15th place team from last year has returned with a vengeance! It's gotten to where I switch the games off after 2 periods...and this is a team already in the playoffs! It's gonna 4 and done!

Oh cmon with the whining about the outdoor games. God forbid! Change! I think the outdoor games are great for the sport. People watch...good for NHL. I know the games in NY will be a great event and awesome for the city.

How can you say this when it hasn't even happened yet? Maybe it will be fantastic. I'll give in the fact that it may away the charm and exciting build-up of having just one, but so what? These games are proven attention grabbers. Attention to hockey = good for hockey.

But it's a short-term gain.
Sure, this year it will get all kinds of attention.
But, remember the space shuttle program? Remember when they would bring the TV into your classroom so you could watch the takeoff of the first few? How special it was? And then remember how it became a footnote at the end of the evening news after a while?

No. I know this because I have common sense.

Huge test for the Senators tonight. First of two games in their final few against the Caps, who are the hottest team in the league at the moment, winners of 8 in a row.
More good news from the Sens camp - Erik Karlsson may participate in a team practice next week as he continues to make remarkable progress following his Achilles heel surgery. Jason Spezza is supposed to get back on the ice next week, but his recovery from surgery has been very slow and he's not expected to play until next season. Milan Michalek has two goals in two games since returning from arthroscopic surgery on his bum knee.
EXACTLY!!!

The Sabres may not be going to the playoffs, but kudos to the Sabres and the Bruins for last night.
