Thanks Scott. Habs games just aren't the same without him.
Leafs all the way, of course!!! Seriously, not really. I've been so busy with work this year that I've only caught a few games. And with the new divisions, I don't really have time to follow the non-Canadians teams. I'm really looking forward to the schedule returning to normal.Originally Posted by mozo-pg
It's more the complete clearing of house that worries me. (And Dolan's sudden desire to be involved in the rangers) I agree that they have a good core, and before all this I was very optimistic about the future. I just worry that switching up GM/coach/front office will shake it up a little too much. At least Drury has been in the system, so hopefully he won't throw bombs everywhere to remake the team.

Some people will argue that the Leafs are only first in their division because the North division is made up of weak teams. That may be partially true. If the Leafs were playing Florida, Tampa, Boston more often would they have maintained 1st place for the majority of the season? No. But in the games that I have seen, they have shown themselves to be a really skilled team. Jack Campbell has been fantastic in goal. Although you never want to see a player get injured, Freddy Andersen's injury might be the best thing that could have happened to the Leafs this season. If they can hold it together to win the division, we'll see how they do against some of the strongest teams in the league. I think the semi-finals are going to be tough for everyone. It'll be the first time this season that any team is playing a team outside of their division.
Also, there's a good chance that whatever team takes the North won't be able to play their home games in their home arena. There's no response yet from the Canadian Gov't about teams crossing the border without needing to quarantine. If the Gov't doesn't approve this, the North team will need to move to a US arena. With large parts of our country still under lock-down orders, I don't have a lot of optimism that the Gov't will approve this. I hope I'm wrong.
Such strange times we live in.
Didnt I see that Campbell started like 10-0-0 for his first ten starts? That's very impressive.
And I just chose the leafs to poke the beehive a little bit, it could apply to any other team in any other division. But good for the leafs either way! I hope they can at least get out of the first round...mostly because I would like to see an Oilers/Leafs series. :P but I do generally root for the leafs. And yes...I agree about the semi-finals. It'll be weird for everyone involved. And I'm still hoping for a strange cup final (Leafs V Bolts for example) that we would never get in a normal year. And I would assume that decision would have to be made soon. If they are going to relocate a team, I would imaigine they'd want the maximum amount of time to do so.
But as long as the Islanders don't win, I will have no complaints.

I'm not sure what Campbell's actual record was but he's had a very impressive season including back-to-back shutouts.
Ontario has been in a province-wide lockdown since April 8. It was supposed to end on May 20, but today it was announced that the lockdown is being extended until June 2. Our Premiere is criticizing our Prime Minister for not have tighter border controls. So I'm even less optimistic now that if the Leafs make the Semi-finals that cross-border travel will be allowed without quarantine. Hopefully, the NHL can prove that the teams can be bubbled so that they don't pose any risk.
I used to watch the regular season intently 30 year ago. I've never waivered from being a Leafs fan, even when Ottawa got its own NHL team. So, I've been a playoff person for a long time. Go Leafs!

What's up with the Rangers? First the GM and Coach and now Brian Leetch walks away? They are definitely on the right track with a young team and a bunch of picks stockpiled. I thought Dolan only messed with the Knicks.
Caps take first game against Bruins 3-2 in overtime. Both teams had ample chances to win in regulation.

I plan to watch Panthers/Lightning tonight (if it's on free TV).
It's about f'in time, Vic! I see you comlaining over in that NFL thread about no sports to watch...meanwhile in FLA ya got yourself 2 pretty awesome hockey teams tearin' it up. This should be a fun series...lots of firepower and hatred. Firepower and Hatred...sound like the title of an old 80's thrash metal album

Honestly, I would be a bit disappointed if you did without it eating at your soul a bit. 😂
Never rooted for your guys, ever. The closet I ever came to crossing the line and rooted for a mortal enemy was when the Mets played the Red Sox in ‘86. Talk about a no win situation! Btw actually rooted for the Sox!
