One thing I'd like to add... My "swings" are very mild compared to the die-hards and the media in this city. I like to view myself as a "realistic" fan. In Montreal, the Habs are either the worse team in the league or an unstoppable juggernaut that's gonna win it all. That varies from game-to-game, week-to-week. Hard to not get caught up in it all, living here. An out-of-market fan does not get the same bombardment. That's true for all flagship franchises in any sport.

You still have a chance if you win against Toronto and Colombus gets no more than 1 point in their last 2 games. Welcome to team Rangers!

Yes, that is still a possibility, but very slim indeed. Columbus have been playing very well, maybe the best of the teams that were in this race. Maybe they lose tonight and tomorrow's game has meaning. It would be nice that the final game be as exciting as this run has been. I'll be tuning in tonight. Go Rangers!

I have constantly stated that regardless of how this played out, it was a great season (go back in my posts and you will see that). I am a cautious fan. I never blow my team's horn too loudly. There was no way I was going to boldly claim we'd make the playoffs simply because I willed it so. And as far as the Leafs being my team going forward, that was meant for this year's playoffs only. The Habs are still my #1 team. I am very optimistic about the leaps this team has made in comparison to last season. I fail to read anything derogatory about the Habs in your quote of me above. We did have the outside track to get in. We fell short.
    Bravo!

    Thank you Esther.

Admittedly there were times this season when the Habs looked like they wouldn't win another game and I may have been disproportionately harsh. Birdy's post is in response to that I assume. Like he said, we all have an opinion so he is entitled to his. I just kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. This team has since proved to me that there is a solid core in place and even a losing streak will not unravel them.

Like you said Yves, everybody has an opinion and like I said, nothing personal. I've been on this thread for a long time and it just seems to me that when the Habs are on a roll, you're all gung-ho but when anything goes wrong, it's time to fire the coach, the general manager etc etc. Didn't mean to "shit all over you"

    Yep! That's the Montreal way!

Admit that this season has been a complete surprise and that maybe blowing it all up last summer did not look like such a bad Idea. I am so glad Bergevin has proven me wrong. I guess the cancer ran deep so a deep cut had to be made. No way I thought Tatar for Pacioretty was a good deal, even with Suzuki thrown in. I did like the Domi for Galchenyuk deal though.

Been a fun team to watch, especially down the stretch...

His son. He inherited the fire but also found some skill to go with it.

It's so weird to me to see the sons of players that I watched growing up, playing in the NHL now. I don't feel old enough for this shit.

I feel the same. I think I have now seen 3 generations of Tkatchuks in the NHL: Walter, Keith, and Brady.

...and perhaps the most talented along with winner of the 'fuck do I want to kill that guy!' award, Matthew, who plays with Calgary.

And speaking of hated players and sons...I never thought I'd say this, but I like a Lemieux! Claude's son Brandon who is a Ranger now gives us that guy who most teams would want, but hate to play against...finally!

Was looking forward to finally having this nightmare of a season end only to have McDavid leave the Saddledome and head straight to a hospital. X-rays on his left leg negative but an MRI will happen back in Edmonton. Un-freaking-believable...

I have the Lightning winning the 1st round in 3.

Actually, I'm kind of nervous about the Bolts. People look at the record and assume that they ran roughshod over most teams, most games. But, in fact, I'd say only about a dozen or so of their season victories could be considered easy, games in which they were clearly superior.

The Bolts have everything to lose in the SCFs while Columbus has nothing. I certainly hope they're not already thinking about Boston or the Caps.

In other news, interesting to see the top 2 draft picks (Hughes, Kakko) come to the conference.

I honestly hope NJ does take Hughes because I'd rather have Kakko. He has a wicked shot off the pass and it's been years since the Rangers had a weapon like that. Especially on the power play. He's also a bigger body. We'll see in June!

I can't wait to watch some playoff hockey tonight!
