JT gone. I thought with the new GM and coach would sway the deal to him staying. This really changes things. Lou signed two defensive minded forwards which is good considering the Isles were last in the league in giving up goals. Bailey returns to a 30 point guy and I don't know where they are going to find the goals. Well we missed the playoffs with him so a defensive approach can't make things worse.

Man, busy day in Leafs Nation yesterday, and on a National holiday no less.

    Tyler Bozak to St. Louis
Fan favourite, James van Riemsdyk returns to the Flyers.
    Leo Komarov to the Islanders
Tomas Plekanec heads back to Montreal

And for all of this movement, Leafs Nation welcomes John Tavares. Who, if I had to guess, will be wearing the C when the season opens.

What a day it's been here in Toronto. I can't wait to see what changes the rest of the summer brings. I wouldn't be suprised to see a few players from the Marlies move up, depending on how they handle their pre-season auditions.

The future is looking very bright.

Yes, I'm looking forward to a whole season of Johanson. He impressed me with speed and hands in his brief stint with Leafs last season. I didn't see a lot of Marlies playoffs, but people were saying he was the best Leaf.

I hate to lose Uncle Leo, i valued him more than most other people did. lol But clearly, Leafs can't spend big bucks on a defensive specialist.

Welcome John Tavares. Leaf nation is glowing. lol I think on paper we have the best (package) 3 centers in the league now. Khadri scored 30+ last year...3rd line center.

The biggest thing is that it will be weird not seeing JVR and Bozak in the line up. Letting them go was the right move.

I think you mean Andreas Johnsson. We were at several Marlies playoff games including games 2, 6 and 7 of the Calder Cup final.

Another Marlies player that I thought played really well this season was Miro Aaltonen. I'd like to see him in a Leafs jersey. As well as Garrett Sparks (again). Sparks had an excellent year with the Marlies and was a huge contributor to their cup win.

I think that was a shot but I'll let it go... Because it's true. They were the softest team in the league last year, so Lou is doing something about that. And Welcome back Matt Martin!

Actually it wasn't really a shot because Komarov and Martin are excellent 4th line guys. Pain in the ass to play against, but it does sort of seem like a Tavares for Komarov/Martin deal though

...and "softest team?" That should probably be awarded to your NY rivals

Strong rumours here that Pacioretty will be dealt soon. So a team that cannot score will trade their top scorer over the last 3 seasons. Why? Because they slapped a "C" on his shirt and weighed him down with too much responsibility. Once he buckled a bit, he was deemed expendable. The Habs' history is an albatross around the franchise's neck.

Meanwhile, Weber will be out until Christmas. That trade is looking more horrendous by the day... And yet Bergevin still has a job as GM....

It's not all bad news, Yves. Bergevin *was* able to snag the 18th-rated prospect in last month's draft. Shockingly, he was still available when it came time for the Habs to announce their 3rd overall selection.

And with a proven playmaker like Drouin on his wing, I'm confident that Max Domi can improve upon the 9 goals he scored each of the past two years to at least 12 or maybe even 15 goals next season!

Certain pundits on TSN had the Habs picking him because he is supposedly that big centre man they have been looking for. Not sure he will play next year so when he does play, not sure Bergevin will still be around. I wish Molson would just sell the team already! They're only interested in asses in seats, despite all the smoke they blow up the fans' asses. The fact that Bergevin and Julien still have jobs merely proves this! I mean, seriously, a chance to bring the Habs back to their former glory is as enticing as bringing the Leafs back. Look who Toronto brought in once they decided they were serious about winning. We should be hand-selecting a GM and a coach from amongst the best in the game. Instead we need a French-speaking coach so we keep re-treading Julien, Therrien, Jacques Martin, etc.... Pathetic!

^ Can't they just hire someone and throw another couple hundred grand at him if he learns the French language?

The thing is...NOBODY can learn the French language! If you're not BORN French, it's hopeless! Ask any Canadian kid forced to take it in school!

I think Patches would look good in Ranger blue. He's a local boy and would add some veteran presence.

Is that why they stick "eh" on the end of all their words?

This is absolutely true. And Quebec French is different than the French we learned in school.

I find it very interesting to see how the Leafs and the Habs have had a role reversal over past years.

We need an NHL with both the Habs and Leafs as top shelf teams. We are the cornerstones of the league.

As far as Pacioretty in Ranger blue, what have you got to give us in exchange? Any trade for him better send Montreal 2 or 3 quality players or else forget it! But then again, look who our GM is...

Sad. I always had a feeling that his life was in question somehow with all the demons he was battling.

As goofy as those are, I have to say that I like seeing John Tavares on a Maple Leafs card.

This is a pretty cool move. I wonder if there are any other women in such positions in the NHL.

Hayley Wickenheiser joins Maple Leafs as player development assistant director.

Oh wow, that's awesome!! The only thing missing though is that Tavares' uniform should have been a bad airbrush job.
