My cousin posted an article to my Facebook page that showed that Season Ticket Holders were up to 15,100. He's very optimistic. I remain very skeptical.

The article went on to say that they will cap season tickets at 16,000, but the arena holds just over 17,000. Which means that I don't see how all of these tickets can be personally owned. There is no way that the hotels/casinos are not going to purchase a large chunk of tickets to give to customers. I predict that the team plays to a half-filled venue each night. With all those season tickets sold, the team may be profitable but it won't have any spirit.

    I hope I'm wrong...time will tell.

A few mild surprises in the first round of the draft last night. Hats off to Ken Holland for engineering a master stroke by trading Pavel Datsyuk's $7.5 cap hit to the Coyotes who have plenty of cap space. They got another first rounder for their generosity.

Ottawa traded up one spot giving up a third rounder to ensure they got their guy - Logan Brown. He's got local connections in that his father Jeff (a former NHL'er) is the coach and GM of the OHL's Ottawa 67s. Jeff was an Ottawa minor system product and Logan is very familiar with the Sens organization, as he is already working out under the Sens Strength and Conditioning coach.

What's it like having a 1st round draft pick?

Canadiens just got more annoying by picking up Andrew Shaw.

Sweet, isn't it? If you look at the way the deal went down it's as if we traded Eller for Shaw! Quite a steal imo!

Stamkos has avoided signing any kind of contract w/Lightning so far, and free agency is about a week away.
Talks have begun. Just ask the Canucks' Jim Benning.

I'm surprised Bishop is still around.

Yeah...the Rangers are clearing up some space...Nash has listed 12 teams he'll go to having the no trade clause and possibly looking to deal Girard, Staal or Stepan...highly likely they are going to make a major offer for Stamkos. Red Wings as well...

Apparently, Glenn Healy has been fired. Just waiting for something official.

I can't begin to tell you how happy I am if this is true. I'm buzzin Jerry! I'm buzzin! I always hated his inane,
long-winded comments that went on forever. Learn to shut up Glenn! Or just learn, whatever. All I can say

    Stamkos Pool

OK, let's have a pool on where Stamkos signs.

    My guess is Detroit.

I got to agree with you. Save up all year to go to Vegas and spend the evening at a hockey game?! Maybe for the first year then it is all over.

What a weird HOF class...Lindros, Makarov, Vachon, and Quinn.

Pretty questionable group if you ask me. Compare them to last year: Niklas Lidstrom, Sergei Federov, Chris Pronger, Phil Housley. Which group would you rather start a team with?

To me Quinn and Makarov are no brainers (Quinn for his coaching both in the NHL and in international play and Makarov for being a major part of those incredible Soviet teams). The Lindros induction is, I think, almost purely based on speculation on what his career might have been without injury which, to me at least, is never a great approach to deciding HOFers. Vachon? A great goalie who played on some not so great Kings teams, without question, but a HOFer? If you think a goalie who played in only three all star games, was named second team all star twice, and shared the Vezina once (under the old system of giving that trophy) is one of the greatest of all time, fine. Personally I immediately rattled off a list of goalies I think should be in there before Vachon (CuJo, Mike Vernon, Beezer, to name a few) as soon as I heard about his induction. I know he's constantly lauded as one of those guys who was better than his number suggest but if you let in Vachon shouldn't you also be inducting guys like Wayne Stephenson and Chico Resch?

"Sportsnet also confirmed it recently laid off five production staff members on its hockey broadcasts, and “less than fourteen” total production and on-air staff. Glenn Healy, P.J. Stock, Billy Jaffe, Chantal Desjardins, Corey Hirsch and Leah Hextall are among the on-air talent who will no longer appear on the network, or on HNIC broadcasts."

    Hey Esther,

I think Rogers got killed this year because no Canadian teams made the playoffs. So their revenues were down (one thing to watch for is the number of ads for other Sportsnet shows rather than beer or truck ads). They also claimed to be spreading their resources too thin by doing a lot of regional pre- and post-game shows. They will probably centralize it like CBC did on Saturday nights.

Holy Crap! Nashville and Montreal swap Subban and Weber.

Yves, what's the word on the street among the Habs fans? Are they happy or suicidal?

Oh, so it wasn't broken at CBC after all?

    I fucking hate Rogers.

I literally found out about the Subban deal about 10 minutes ago! I'm still in shock! I guess he was a cancer in the room after all. Shea Webber is a proven commodity. I'll have to see it on the ice before I can decide if I like it or not. P.K. was more icing than cake, especially this last season...
