Me too. I've found the games mostly unwatchable and haven't been able to make it through an entire game yet.

I've also been disappointed in the Cup final this year, so far. Only sporadic bursts of intensity from the Sharks and their big names have disappeared completely, not that the Pens are making it easy for them.

It's too long. Every series should be a 3 out of 5 until this last one. Middle of June by the time someone wins the Cup and then it's training camps in September...

Nah...best of seven is the way to go. The Sharks-Blues conference final, for example, was a tremendous series and more than worthy of seven games. If anything trim the regular season by a week or two.

Or just start earlier. My preferred schedule:

Regular Season: September 15th to March 15th (vs. actual October 7th to April 10th this year)
1st Round of Playoffs: Last 2 weeks of March
2nd Round: First 2 weeks of April
3rd Round: Last 2 weeks of April
Stanley Cup Final: First 2 weeks of May

I like that schedule Brad. Cut training camp and pre-season way back or just have rookie camps and play the rookies and bubble players in the pre-season games until they cut the roster down to 23 then start the regular season. Just have to convince the players and owners, that's all.

I like that schedule too, Brad. And no way I change to best of 5. Has to be best of 7.

As far as this final? Yeah, it's been a real snoozer.

Seriously? Four goals in the first 5:06? Don't see that very often.

I posted this on facebook, but thought I would post it here too:

We lost Mr. Hockey today. Growing up in Michigan Gordie Howe was more than just a legend. In many ways he represented the spirit of the city of Detroit. He had an amazing 32 year professional career, 26 of those with the Red Wings. In his later years he joined the WHA in order to play with his sons, playing into his 50’s. He was married to his wife for over 50 years until she passed away in 2009. He also gave a lot back to the community of Detroit as well as the state of Michigan and as a person you will find almost nothing negative written about him. He also had a great sense of humor as evidenced by this commercial he filmed for ESPN after he retired with Keith Oberman which I always thought was funny:

When I took that Hockey History course last year, I had to write a paper on the WHA. I read some great stories and interviews about Gordie Howe playing in the WHA with his sons. One of my favourites was a story in his own words (I don't remember now if it was a written interview or from a documentary I watched) where he said that while they were in a game, an opposing player was trying to pick a fight with one of his sons. Gordie came in fought the guy instead. After the game, in the dressing room, his son reamed him out and told him that he can fight his own battles. LOL! They might have been teammates, but Gordie was a Dad first.

Aw man, what a shame. Rest in peace, Gordie.

    Love that commercial

I have nothing but good thoughts for Mr. Hockey. A life well lived.

"The Simpsons" were refused the rights to use a Johnny Unitas card for free so they went with Howe's.

    RIP Gordie Howe.

Congrats to the Pens. Even though the Sharks won two on the scoreboard, the Pens pretty much dominated all six games.

None of the hockey fans where I work (there are a handful of us) were pulling for the Pens . . . . . . . .

But it is good to see Matt Cullen get to hoist the Cup again.

    Gonna be a long summer.

    This Rangers-Isles pre-season game is almost sold-out.

Congrats Pens. Really took off after the New Year and never looked back.

    Ugh.

Gordie Howe passes away, the Penguins raise the Cup, and Crosby gets the Conn Smythe without scoring a goal.

What an awful week for hockey.

I have to admit that I forgot the game was on last night and I spent the evening listening to prog. Imagine that!

I now concede that the Sharks are an even bigger loser franchise than the Sens. (I'm practising using the word "loser" as an adjective, just in case Trump wins in November. We'll be hearing it a lot if he does.)

^^^Fuck that, Ed. We're not paying for it, so you'll have to pay for it!
