He absolutely is. So disappointing that the NHL chose him as their poster boy.

    WTF was this?!

I truly hope this seals Bernier's fate and we see Reimer as the starting goalie for the foreseeable future. Bernier's records is 0-7-1 for the season, to Reimer's 5-2-3. And then he lets soft goals like this go through? He has not earned his position this year.

That makes Condon's poor performance look solid in comparison! Price better get well soon or the Habs will start taking a nosedive in the standings. 4 goals in 11 shots in 2 periods on Saturday! You just don't give your team a chance to stay in the game with a performance like that!

Bad game for Condon but also for the Habs in general. They'll bounce back though!

Sort of... It was ugly for the first half of the game; but we'll take the 2 points!

For sure. Funny how these slow starts have been happening. My son's hockey team which I coach, have been having the same problems. Really slow starts, their heads not in the game and then they make it hard on themselves. Must be the coaching

not sure i like it but something had to change. the nhl allstar game is a disgrace to the sport. they say they want to turn new fans on to the game but i think they turned fans off the game

I like the idea as well. Maybe I'll actually watch.

I like it but does it really showcase hockey the way it is currently played in the NHL? I think this format will be preaching to the choir more than anything else. I'll be curious enough to watch it before making a final decision about it.

Not interested. I hate the continuous attempts by the NHL to water down the game.

Cmon man, it's only the All Star game! How lame has this thing been for ages? Let go of the purist for one day and give it a whirl.

I think that the NHL gave up on trying to draw newbies to the sport via the All Star game. Now it's just about asses in seats and eyes on the tube the night of the game. I like that they introduced an elimination format because it will eventually bring out the competitive juices in the players. It will be interesting to see who will be paired with whom and the chemistry that will ensue.

Mounties playing hockey on a frozen lake in the Northwest Territories.

I'm going to dispute the "birthplace of hockey" claim, but the video is cool. And it looks like they cut it off just as the bloodshed was about to start.

Why would you dispute the claim? Where else is hockey said to have been born?

On a slightly different topic... I was home sick for the last two days and so Netflix was my best friend. I came across this 2011 documentary. It's about goons in general and Knuckles Nilan in particular. I thoroughly enjoyed it even though, in his playing days, I was a Nordiques fan:

In the course I took last year, we learned many theories about the origins of hockey...some of which went back as far as the Vikings. The prevailing opinion of hockey historians however, is that hockey first began in North America in Windsor, Nova Scotia. And it was originally called Hurley. The name Hockey came later. Here's more about it if you you're interested.

    Well played!

Esther, was it called Hurley because it was a variation on the Irish sport of Hurling?

I don't know. I don't recall hurling being mentioned. But it's quite possible. It makes sense.

Just for fun, and because Hurling reminded me of it, I give you this classic Kids In The Hall sketch on a sport called "Shirling". Enjoy!
