"why are people trying to keep me away from my medicine?"
One of my fave artists from one of my favorite bands (STP). While not shocking; it has saddened me quite a bit.

His ex weighs in (and pulls no punches)....
That was an extremely tough read. I can`t even name a STP song. Too bad for his family - before and after.
All sordid tales, but getting back to the music…I re-listened to the first five Stone Temple Pilots records the last few days and find that most of their songs still sound fresh to these ears.
At heart, they were really a pop band, albeit with a penchant for glam filtered through some tasty guitar work reminiscent of the Stones ca. Sticky Fingers/Beggars Banquet; they definitely had nothing whatsoever in common with e.g. Nickelback and very little with Pearl Jam et al. Just listen to Weiland channel Morrison in “Atlanta” on 1999’s No. 4. Sublime.
Not sure why critics and the coterie of ironically detached hipsters felt the need to scoff at them. Maybe it was just their debut Core, which does sound of its time (1992) and exhibits some of the typical Grunge traits, but their subsequent releases are decidedly more original and place them outside of the “flannel idiom”. Commercial success and quality are often mutually exclusive, but not in this case, IMO.
Weiland’s delightfully nonsensical Zen-like lyrics ensured that they never succumbed to the self-pitying prevalent in some of the other Grunge acts. His uncanny ability to craft beatlesque vocal hooks elevated the (sometimes) pedestrian riffs and is quite an achievement; add his Iggy-meets-James Brown swagger to the mix and you have a first class frontman, now sadly departed.
Again, RIP and thank you for the music.

Well stated, I couldn't agree more
When Core made its debut in 92, I thought of them as a poppier Alice in Chains, who also had a great lead singer that OD'd.
no tunes, no dynamics, no nosebone
Scott Weiland's tour bus was a pharmacy on wheels ... police found a stash of drugs on board that ran the gamut from hardcore narcotics to prescriptions to ED meds.
TMZ obtained a copy of the search warrant Bloomington, MN cops got to search Weiland's bus after his death -- and it shows they found at least 2 bags of a white substance. They've already said that substance tested positive for cocaine.
Also on the bus -- a generic version of Xanax, 2 different brands of sleeping pills, Buprenorphine ... a synthetic opiate painkiller, and Viagra. There was also Ziprasidone ... which is used to treat bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Scott was diagnosed as bipolar in 2001.
According to the docs, all of those drugs were found in a bedroom on the bus. We know Scott's body was found in a bedroom ... although the document does not mention his name.
Cops also found one bag of a green, leafy substance.

Looks like The Wildabouts borrowed Rush Limbaugh’s Winnebago for the tour without cleaning up before going on the road…

As a person who works for the company that makes Viagra, the Viagra / Cocaine combination has also proved to be a fatal mix for some older adults.
Too bad stars who die have their most private aspects in life plastered all over the media.
Saw STP on one of their early tours. It was a great show. Totally sad passing but also totally no surprise. I know it was mentioned upthread how he liked to talk about rock stars dead before their time. Here he is eerily stepping in for one of them...
Great voice, he will be missed....

STP's tribute to him. I always thought that melody was inspired by My Favorite Things....
