    Addiction

We know that people can be addicted to alcohol, tobacco, gambling, sex, work, physical training, sport, money, and sugar and nowadays many other things besides are being diagnosed and recognised by psychologists as genuine addictions. So I was wondering are there any real addictions of a musical nature amongst musicians or listeners? This of course does not include the compulsive buying of new albums every payday....:-)

Well, there is G.A.S...(Gear Acquisition Syndrome)...I am a "victim" of this "disease".

I tend to get unwillingly aroused by multiple krumhorns, but I just can't say if that counts as an actual addiction.

Baritone sax, marimbas and large percussive gongs for me. I blame a childhood devoted to "Looney Tunes."

A pretty common affliction for musicians; I'd say guitar players and keyboard players are the most susceptible (though I know drummers who have 5 or more drumkits). I had it for decades and though I'm still not immune, budget constraints have gotten it under control for me. It was at it's worst (or best, depending on how you look at it) during times of bachelorhood, when there was no intervention.

I have an addiction to not hearing the popular music of the past 35 years or so.

I am addicted to this site and a few other music sites. I just can't help myself. It's compulsive and I have to do it a few times a day. I'm not kidding either.
