Thread: New Steven Wilson - 4 1/2 Out January 2016

OUR LONG NATIONAL NIGHTMARE IS OVER

Mostly, I'm just very, very, very happy that Wilson elected not to release this until January. Otherwise, people would have to confront the horror of deciding WHICH Wilson would be the automatic Best Prog Album of 2015.

If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Also, Ephemeral Sun: it's a thing and we like making things that might be your thing: https://ephemeralsun.bandcamp.com

I could just imagine the fights at WalMart on Black Friday, as soccer moms all claw at each other trying to buy the last Super Deluxe Editions of this for their spoiled and overweight 11 year old sons....

    Hmm...
    - Recordings
    - Nil Recurring
    - The bonus tracks to The Incident

That's a pretty good track record.
Well, I love just about all of Recordings, but on NR I really only rate "What Happens Now?" as an essential. "Normal" is OK, but it's basically a counterpoint to "Sentimental", which I prefer.
And I only like two of the four tracks on The Incident bonus disk.

Of the extra tracks from "Insurgentes", I really only like "Collecting Space", which is an older song anyway.

There is also the Futile EP, which has "Drown With Me" (excellent), and the title track and "Chloroform" are quite good too - the rest, I find so-so.

So yes I stand by what I said. His "outtakes" are exactly that - songs which for one reason or another he did not consider suitable for albums. Sometimes they are great songs regardless, sometimes not.

Of course all this is subjective, but it's impossible for it to be otherwise.

Of course he'll slow down at some stage. The question is, will that happen before his fans lose interest?

The way things appear, I would say so. With every album some people jump off the bus as others jump on.

You say that ... but okay, what's the best archive remix/remaster of 2015 then? Seems to me that the Long National Nightmare is still on.

hmmmmm..... Don't know if it's just a coincidence, but......

    22-January is midway though the 4th week of January, as in 4 + 1/2 = 4 1/2

Only the first day of the 4th week.

Also, surely 4 PLUS 1/2 would imply halfway throught the 5th week?

    Overthinking it, maybe.

I know you're kidding, but there's probably some truth to that!

    It's solo album #4.5.

YES!! A rare misstep from him!
I'm in. I think he's hit quite a rare space with HCE, he keeps getting better and better. I've said from the first time I heard HCE this was going to put him in a totally different world. Seeing him in places like Best Buy theater could very well be a thing of the past.

No. It couldn't be that simple. I refuse to believe such.

There's certainly some sort of subliminal twist in this, some sort of dire conspiracy afoot, some sort of twisted plan for us all in the end. The riddle will finally be revealed and we'll be stunned, thunderstruck, dumbfounded, left aghast, ...and begging for more.

Psyched for this. The man's been on a real roll lately.

NP: Steven Wilson Grace for Drowning (coincidentally)

    I think under-thinking it. It doesn't take a math major to know that 4 + 1/2 = 2112 in hexadecimal.

I'm sure 4 1/2 has something to do with Finnegan's Wake. Undoubtedly.

Touché. (I'm right about Finnegans Wake though. History will vindicate me! )

Did someone edit the subject line? I'm pretty sure I didn't include a dash with no space on one side and a space on the other, and a completely random asterisk.

Don't recall what my original subject line was, but I apologize if it was unclear.

Is there a dumber venue name than "o.co Stadium"?
