In the pre-WWW days, a coworker lent me a tape that he'd marked "Robin Trower" because he saw me with some other Trower tapes. The next day I told him that I had a hard time believing that was Trower because it sounded nothing like anything else he'd done, and he kind of got a little mad at me, saying that some musicians are able to play in a wide variety of styles. Whatever.
A few weeks later I heard a program about Paul Winter and thought the guitarist's playing sounded a lot like that tape I'd borrowed.
Ralph Towner.
