The Pneumatic Transit - (RIYL Mahavishnu Orchestra, King Crimson)

    http://thepneumatictransit.bandcamp.com/releases

This band and their debut album "Concerto for Double Moon" is released today, October 13th, 2015. It's been a pretty long time in the making. It's from ex-Exotic Animal Petting Zoo guitatrist Jeff Zampillo.

    7. The Meketrex Supplicant 2:28

    9. Sparrow Sparrow 2:15
    10. Lioness 7:34
    11. Silent Waves of Sleeping Soothsayers 2:41

Musically, like I posted in the subject, it definitely shares a lot in common with the jazz-rock/fusion of Mahavishnu Orchestra and prog styling of the 70's King Crimson, as Jeff is noted as being quite a big fan.

It's really one of the best instrumental/jazz-fusion albums I've heard in a few years, and the featured use of Cello especially, has it stand out in a lot ways to me.

Here's a more extensive review I wrote last week:

    It was very good.

No credits listed at BandCamp or any other real info. And no website for them.

The Website is under construction as I can only see an empty template developed in WordPress. The music sounds great, though.

wow, I didn't realize the credits weren't on the bandcamp nor Facebook even (and I didn't even list all of them in my review)

    Here's the basic credits:

    Jeff Zampillo - guitar, Mellotron
    Michael Mirro - drums
    Waz Fox- keyboard
    Carl Coan - saxophone
    Michael Ferraro - cello

The drummer Michael Mirro is noteworthy in that he used to play with Umphrey's McGee (1998-2002 I guess). But it's also quite sad that he passed away about a year ago after finishing work on this album.

Any word on new work by this fabulous band? Was looking for something else on YT and I found this great rendition of the John Coltrane classic:

    bump.

Jeff Zampillo contacted me recently and said they are about to release a new album (in a few months likely).

So for those who enjoyed their debut album, or may want to check it out, some new stuff is not too far away.
