Bands named from songs, albums or other bands

Any band inspired by the name or work of another band:

Godsmack-from an Alice in Chains song
Twilight of the Gods-from a Bathory song and album (and initially a Bathory tribute band)
    "Alienated-so alien I go!"

Death Cab For Cutie named for a song by the Bonzo Dog Band from the Magical Mystery Tour movie.

Well, we could fill this thread for every B-grade neo-prog band named for a Genesis song or album, but I’d rather post my favourite absurd example: Donna Summer.
Confirmed Bachelors: the dramedy hit of 1883...

Radiohead was named after a Talking Heads song.

There have been bands presumably named after albums or songs such as:

    Freehand
    Afterglow
    Cinema Show
    Foxtrot
    Masters of Reality
Death Cab for Cutie (already mentioned but it's a good one)
    Trilogy
    Lizard
    Starless
    Relayer

I know there are a lot more examples but that's all I could think of for now.

And not really the same thing but I've always gotten a kick out of the band names the Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Samuel Jackson 5.

    Several Australian examples:

Daddy Cool - named after a 1950's song by The Diamonds
Powderfinger - named after a song by Neil Young.
The Yard Goes On Forever (backing band for Ed Kuepper, formerly of the Saints) - presumably named after the song and album "The Yard Went On Forever" by Richard Harris.

Lets not forget Nick Lowe, who named one album 'Bowi' after David Bowie's 'Low'.

Yep. I forgot all about that one but that's a great example. Yes it was named after the DP song.

I don't think they were named after the Genesis song but I don't know for sure. I thought it was more of a biblical reference or something.

There's a newish (as opposed to Jewish) band called Walk The Moon, they have a big current hit called "Shut Up and Dance." They admit to naming the band after a Police song.

Not a band, but Lady Gaga admits to getting her name from one of Queen's worst songs (imo).

Il Tempio delle Clessidre (as song by Museo Rosenbach)

La Torre dell Alchimista is a song by Area but the band swears that they didn't know that
    as they choose their name.

And I don't know if it was intentional, but Deep Purple themselves are named after a really old song.

Yeah, I believe this was Ritchie Blackmore's grandmother's favorite song, and thus the source of the band's name. I was actually wondering a couple of weeks ago if there was a cover of the song in the style of the band!

That is what Kit Watkins said. They picked the name and were surprised later when they found Genesis had a song with that name.

The Nice were named after the Small Faces' song "Here Comes the Nice."

The Boston band starring Amy Mann 'Til Tuesday was named after the David Bowie number "Love You Till Tuesday."
