Ha, this is topical for me! From my massively ignored thread from the other day ( http://www.progressiveears.org/forum...resco-Destrier ):-
Agent Fresco
An excellent mix of pop, art rock and metal, third album Destrier recently released, watch out for the brilliant vocals of Arnór Dan Arnarson. Listen to the whole album on Bandcamp and here's my review at The Progressive Aspect.
I asumed folks would know that, but it's oké to mention it. He's also featured in the DVD "Allan Holdsworth" in the Alfred's Artist Series.
I also recommend Skúli's solo-recordings "Seria" and "Seria II".
And while you're searching for more of his work, you could try albums from Laurie Anderson, Theo Bleckmann, Steve Hunt, Itsnotyouitsme, Susan McKeown, Ryuichi Sakamoto + David Sylvian and many more.

Mezzoforte also plays on the live CD/DVD "Kaleidoscope" by Árni Egilsson:
I had an LP from an Icelandic band called Þeyr many years ago.

Yup, Theyr were (IIRC) contemporaries of Sugarcubes and almost as big back in the day. Quirky new wave/post-punk stuff, I recall.

Þeyr shared guitarist and drummer with KUKL , and their bassplayer played with Psychic TV
Errattum: Their bassplayer was Hilmar Örn Agnarsson not to be confused with Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson who plyaed with Psychic TV and worked with Sigurd Ros as well.

Maybe my fav live album ever (the DVD from that concert is even better)
There is a female Icelandic singer who did an excellent version of Yes' "Soon" in the Icelandic language. I wish I could think of her name.
^ They're pretty damn good; I just recently got hold of their (AFAIK) only release. Not too far from the playfulness of Thursaflokkur either.
But I'm absolutely sure that if we could only find an Icelandic artist doing Genesis/Yes songs, all others mentioned in here would appear utterly redundant.
Especially if they wear costumes'n'shit.

It ain't prog - so sue me - but I wanted to post something from Johann Johannsson's neo-classical opus Orphée:
because it's lovely.

Lucy in Blue - two very nice albums of nice psychedelic, space and post rock mixture. Plenty of samples on You Tube:
