Opeth - Delierance and Damnation Remixes

    Steven Wilson Remixes

'Deliverance & Damnation', a double album almost 15 years in the making. Originally released separately in 2002 and 2003 respectively, these sessions were written and recorded together and it’s time for Music for Nations to present the album as a complete piece.

MFN will be releasing the double album in two beautifully reissued formats that includes new stereo and 5.1 mixes, with artwork redesigned by original designer Travis Smith. Liner notes by Mikael Åkerfeldt and Jerry Ewing of Prog in a lavish four disc bookset. As well as triple vinyl on classic 180 gram black vinyl.

Released on October 30th to coincide with Opeth’s 25 year anniversary, this is the perfect time for Music For Nations to re-issue one of the band’s most essential releases, allowing fans new and old to experience 'Deliverance & Damnation' the way it should have always been.

I would probably go for this just on the opportunity to hear the title track from Deliverance in surround sound. Still one of my all-time favorite Opeth tracks.

(also...in before the inevitable deluge of "well, I would pay for Damnation but why do they have to bundle it with that awful metal album with terrible vocals" gripes)
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Well, I would pay for Damnation but why do they have to bundle it with that awful metal album with terrible vocals?

In any case, I already have Damnation so I can't see myself investing in this package. It's good, but not so good that I need two versions.

Well, I would pay for Damnation but why do they have to bundle it in an expensive book with two pricey drink coasters?

I'm sure I'll buy the CD set. The links in the OP did not work for me, I think these are the correct links:

Would love this, but my player doesn't play DVD-As.

    How was/is this?

    Terrific

Opeth is another group I'm relatively new to, and while I'm not a fan of growly vocals, I like what this band is doing, even the earlier albums that are more on the metal size of the progressive metal equation.

Damnation, which I do prefer to Deliverance, sounds absolutely wonderful. Clear, detailed, warm....everything you'd hope for in a high res stereo mix (since I don't have surround).

You know, I got this a while ago amidst a flurry of other releases and never went back to give it a closer listen. Thanks for the reminder

I was listening to the Deliverance remix a couple of days ago - nothing too dramatic, but I could feel it. Perhaps a tad more bottom end to the sound, and some subtle reposition of vocals and effects in the mix. On pure listening instinct - I felt it sounded better, but hard to qualify exactly why as I never had a problem with the original mix. But yes, an interesting improvement.

Soord seems to have a taken a leaf out of SW's book and not tampered with the basics, and on the basis of this he could be the next go-to-guy for remixes.

I prefer the original of both of these albums. I dunno - the low end on Deliverance seems a tad muddy. In any event, I am obsessed with both "Masters Apprentices" and "By the Pain I see in Others"....both stellar tracks.
