    Steven Wilson Remixes
Gentle Giant - Band’s iconic fourth album OCTOPUS will be reissued on 30th October in BLU-RAY/CD and standalone CD formats, including my stereo and 5.1 surround sound remixes of several of the tracks (unfortunately not all of the multi track tapes could be located) and a 15-minute live performance of "Excerpts from Octopus" from the band's 1976 tour.
Instrumental mixes and a flat transfer of the original 1972 mix will also be included, all in 96/24 LPCM. More info soon.

Great news! I was always curious why Octopus wasn't the first GG transferred to 5.1.

Too bad about The Boys In The Band because I really wanted to hear that coin swirling all over my room in 5.1. I still want it though.

Knots might be worth the price alone. Seems like the perfect song for surround sound. Hope he does a good job.

If that's true (which it seems completely pointless to remix this thing in surround if it is), I'm out.

I was disappointed as well because it seemed to me these tracks would stand out in in comparison to the remixed stereo (I don't have surround capability). I asked the engineer who helped SW about it. This was his response as well as to the missing multitracks -

"I don't think the un-remixed tracks will stand out too much as we took great care to match the original mix, but obviously they will be a little less clear and dynamic and will have a little hiss.

The release was reported to give more time to find the tapes. If we knew how the multis went missing we would be a little closer to finding them, but unfortunately... However things do turn up from time to time. Labels are constantly re-organising their archives in these days of reissues and mergers and buy-outs (which may be a part of the problem, come to think of it)."

At least we have the flat transfer to look forward to.

All -- there is more information to come tomorrow about this release.

I promise you it's an excellent release on multiple fronts. Look for GG's official announcement imminently.

Well, yesterday's tomorrow has come and gone. I guess the info has been postponed a day or two?

As much as I LOVE this album, this news is disappointing and I'm out too.

There's more to this release story than has been revealed yet. It will be a very attractive package on multiple fronts. Looks like the official announcement has yet to be made. Perhaps wait for that to proclaim judgement.
