He got 14 out of 14, but I got 11 and I wasn't really trying hard! Questions like what was the first album called were not very challenging. Sorry haven't got time to list them all, the one I really didn't know was the venue of their first gig (the speakeasy). It's up on iplayer now.

I was on Mastermind in 1987 and offered "The music of Robert Fripp" as my specialist subject. They turned it down. Very dismissive they were. Not a proper subject, they said. Clearly, things have moved on and quite right too!

I scored 14 on my other subject (Sino-Soviet relations, if you must know) but not enough to get through to the semis ...

    4) They released their 13th album in 2003 and opens with an a cappella version of the title track, name the album?
    5) Who created the artwork of the distorted screaming face on ITCOTKC?
    6) The opening track on the '82 album Beat, Neal Jack & Me, was inspired by the 25th anniversary of which classic beat era novel?
    7) What London venue did KC make their live debut under that name in April 1969?
    8) They never had a top 40 single but appeared on Top of the Pops in March 1970 playing which song?
    9) What was the B-side of Cat Food which appeared on the 1976 compilation album A Young Persons Guide to ...?

    11) Fripp disbanded the band in 74 saying KC was over only to reform the band later. They disbanded for a second time in 1984 after the release of what studio album?
    12) What was the name of the co-founder of Supertramp that wrote lyrics for KC for the 70's albums LTiA, SABB and Red?

    Hello everybody,
I translated the questions for the Italian King Crimson facebook forum and we got stuck at question 7.

Both Sid Smith and tron-is-king agree that the first King Crimson gig ever was not in London but in Newcastle. I quote from http://tron-is-king.org.uk/informati...son-biography/ : "On the 22nd February, the band travelled up by train (with Sinfield & Fraser driving up the motorway with the gear) to Newcastle to fulfil their obligations to the “Change Is” night club. Although billed as “Giles, Giles and Fripp”, they announced to the audience that they had changed their name to King Crimson. The band went down well enough to pick up a return booking, though it was never fulfilled. Upon their return to London, they found that they were in print, courtesy of the International Times (IT) which was an ‘underground’ paper, comparable with ‘Oz’. The article was written by Simon Stable, who was a great fan of the band, and would later marry Judy Dyble.

The band impressed the booker of The Speakeasy Club, and they were signed up for an appearance on April 9th. The Speakeasy Club4 (at 48, Margaret Street, London, close to Oxford Street) was a meeting place for musicians, music journalists and, most importantly, record company workers. Descriptions of the Speakeasy as being a musicians drinking den were a little harsh. Crimson went down very well that night. Amongst the audience were Bill Bruford, Steve Hackett (later of Genesis) and Yes guitarist Pete Banks. On hearing Crimson, it is reputed that Banks was so knocked out by the sounds they were making, his pint never left the bar. Ian McDonald reckoned that the Moody Blues, Ginger Baker and Manfred Mann1 were also in the audience. The word began to spread, and to encourage this further, a friend of Peter Sinfield’s, Barry Godber, was roped in to design and print posters of the band, which were fly-posted in certain parts of London."

So, it seems like the right answer for "What venie did KC make their live debut under that name?" is "Newcastle" (also the website "King Crimson Live!" agrees), but the question tells about London, then I guess the right answer is "The Speakeasy". So I ask you: what was considered the right answer during the Mastermind show? What would you consider as correct answer?

    Thank you
