Thread: Artists that have released the same song with both group and solo?

  1. #1

Artists that have released the same song with both group and solo?

Which artists have released the same song on both their band's and own solo albums?

    Am only talking studio releases!

A couple come immediatly to mind:

Phil Collins-'Behind the Lines'-Released on Face Value & Duke
Jon Anderson-'Hearts'-Released on 90125 & Change We Must

Steve Howe did his own renditions of the "Your Move" portion of "All Good People," "Disillusion" from "Starship Trooper," and "Soon" on his solo album, Natural Timbre.

Doesn't Made in Heaven have things that were also on Freddie's solo albums?

Assuming that artists who left a band and then released a live album with tracks from the band does not count....

Dave Cousins - Blue Angel (2 weeks last summer)
Strawbs - Blue Angel (Blue Angel)

BJH - Child of the Universe (Everyone is Everybody Else)
John Lees - Child of the Universe (A Major Fancy)

I'm sure that there are tons more....

The Beach Boys/Brian Wilson - Let Him Run Wild

Derek and the Dominoes/Eric Clapton - Layla

Bob Marley & the Wailers/Bunny Wailer - Pass It On

Bunny Wailer did a whole album of Bob Marley songs as a tribute, but many of them probably don't count for this thread because he was not part of the Wailers on the original group recording of the song.

Genius Todd, for all his unquestioned talent, still wasn't able to sing "Hello It's Me" better than Stewkey did on the first Nazz album.

The "reformed" Asia re-recorded "Finger on the Trigger," which was originally on the John Wetton/Geoff Downes Icon II: Rubicon album.

Similarly, Squire & Sherwood rerecorded Open Your Eyes (as Wish I Knew), Man in the Moon, The More We Live, and Love Conquers All for the first Conspiracy album.

I think you have that backwards, but another excellent example.

regarding Queen's Made In Heaven CD in 1995.....
Heaven For Everyone was from Roger Taylor's band The Cross cd Shove It. (Freddie sang it originally)
Made In Heaven, I Was Born To Love You was from Freddie's solo album.
Too Much Love Will Kill You was from Brian May's solo album Back To The Light.

also songs from Queen & Paul Rodgers cd Cosmos Rockin': title track, Small & Say It Ain't True,
were later recorded by Roger Taylor on his 2013 solo album Fun On Earth. (Jeff Beck playing on Say It Ain't True)
the title track is titled Whole House Rocking.

    Forgot about that one.

I very much prefer Dr. May's version.

    ^^ as do I!

Also, I believe Maiden's Bring Your Daughter... was originally on a Bruce Dickinson solo album.

Didn't Adrian Belew also record some King Crimson songs that were on Thrak such as People prior to that album?

Not that I'm aware of though I'd certainly like to hear that!

"I Remember How To Forget" from Belew's Op Zop Too Wahwas auditioned by KC (it can be heard on the Vrooom sessions) but didn't work out as a six man piece.
