Well, I was being facetious as I'm sure no one really cares. A petition I could get behind is one that protests the lack of release of the last Sleepytime Gorilla Museum CD and DVD that was hinted at.

Good stuff, that Simon Steensland. These top lists really help discover interesting artists, especially those who do not make them.

I love Desolation Rose but would put no fewer than 6 albums from The Flower Kings ahead of it:

    Stardust We Are
    Flower Power
    Space Revolver
    Unfold The Future
    The Sum Of No Evil
    Banks Of Eden
    The Prog Corner

No Stardust We Are? No Thinking Plague? No Advent? No Cirrus Bay? What kind of a list is this anyway??

I don't listen to any of these bands. I'm not trying to levy judgement or anything; there is just a whole half of "prog" I'm really not plugged into, nor particularly care for.

couldn't agree more. the people who put this together must think metal is the new prog. I have no problem with DT being on the list but one album would have been more than sufficient. their view of the "best" is obviously skewed in that direction and that alone taints the whole list. between everything related to DT, Wilson, Spock's Beard and Roine Stolt, it seems more like a list of one fans favorite albums during that time period. all that prog metal and no Wolverine, who BTW should be releasing a new album this year according to the drummer

I'm no expert by any means but how can you leave out a band like Ozric Tentacles or Quantum Fantay, Kaipa, Planet X, etc., etc....I'm sure we could all go on and on. there's such a huge reservoir of progressive music that can easily be tapped into with even the slightest research. lists such as that tend to steer new listeners towards a small fraction of prog and nowhere else. that's too bad.

They left out many possible contenders. All you have to do is hear Gagliarchives to see how many contenders there are at the end of each show.

Exactly how I feel. I went to the site and annoyingly one must click on a new page for each 10 entries. I went a few pages in and it was more of the same. I consider progressive rock my favorite genre, if one can call it that, but most of these bands don't speak to me at all.

yes, exactly. there are other places to discover as well. I just think if one is going to bother with making such a list, it should be well represented by all the flavors of prog.

With all due respect to the posters, there is only one thing becoming more predictable than these 'best of' lists and it is the PE reaction to them. The lists are generally made up of the same names....Steven Wilson, Transatlantic, Neal Morse, Spock's Beard, etc. I am ok with that as I actually like those artists, but I still don't give these best of lists much thought as ultimately they are all pretty silly. That said, the reaction to them here is pretty much akin to the guy who complains each year about the academy award nominations because there aren't more independent films on the Best Picture list. For better or worse, depending on your tastes, the names on these best of lists generally represent either the best known names in the current prog scene or they cater to a certain style of prog. Tastes will vary, but my guess is that you will find more people who are familiar with Spock's Beard or Dream Theater than Guapo. There is no reason to be indignant or even insulted or insulting of the bands listed. If you don't like the list, create your own and post it somewhere. To be shocked by lists containing these names can't seriously be surprising at this point, can it?

Your right, if DPRP did a "best of" for the last 25 years it would look very similar. It's just a very narrow view that's all, in fact I enjoy many of those albums still but c'mon! Maybe the Rolling Stone magazine should have given them some advice.

Credit where it's due, the Rolling Stone list was far more encompassing than this one.

Perhaps the title should have read "DT crowned best "SELLING" Prog album of the last 25 years! " And some of those bands are questionably proganything. However Thank You Scientist is a valid entry!

Lot's of Inside Out, Magna Carta, and bigger labels. The last 25 years has produced many a great gems, non of which are listed. This list also has a somewhat favored Progmetal leaning, and even that would make it a bit flawed to many progmetal fans here I am sure. Just goes to show you, we are the dinosaurs now. Our days have become what once were and now will never be.
