Interesting. I hear no harshness, on my system. The dynamics are between the heavy and quiet parts, by definition. When it's heavy and loud, I want it heavy and loud. And I think that Courtney is an amazing singer, and there is nothing shrill at all, on this new album. To each their own, as they say. Maybe this band is just not for you.

As far as I'm concerned, this may be the best thing that they have ever done. Certainly my fave since Shiny Eyed Babies. Can't wait to get a few more spins in.

Maybe the best show of the four I've seen from them and the longest! The setlist was (I believe):

    The Whole New Album

    Land Animal
    Battle Creek
    Leak Water
    Holy Ghost
    Way Too Long

Picked up the CD and excited to get into it in more depth!

Place was packed, capacity is around 240 so it was probably between 150 and 200. I ducked out after Land Animal around an hour into the gig, I'd been on my feet for an hour bouncing around and was starting to drift, it was just past 11 so went home tired and happy. Got to have a brief chat with Ben, Courtney & Gavin before the gig.

Courtney is also kind of shrill on a lot of the vocals.
Sometimes her voice can make me turn them off. I like her voice on Black Tar Water and Leak Water, because she doesn't oversing with the shrill tone that makes me cringe at times.
I have the same reaction to her vocals sometimes. I am not a fan of the shrill thing she does, although at the same time I think she has one of the most amazing voices of any young prog singer out there these days. I like her vocals better when she sings more straightforwardly.

Not a fan of their last two studio productions, but I have just learnt they have two download-only live albums/videos: Live at Davis Square Theatre (2014) and Live at the Space (2015).

I was only aware of the earlier Live & Nearly Unplugged (2013) on Bandcamp, but these two above are not even listed on Discogs! I'll need to check both.

I was sitting on the floor 3 feet in front of Courtney for Live at the Space. Man the memories!
