New CD release featuring John Goodsall and Percy Jones

Did you know Percy Jones and John Goodsall are still working together?

'Cymbalic Encounters' represents the collaboration of Mark Murdock and his 'symbolic musical encounters,' foremost being Brand X's, Percy Jones and John Goodsall.

'Exploration of the Southern Constellation' is Mark Murdock's second CD release accompanied by John Goodsall and Percy Jones of the Brand X fame.
'Exploration of the Southern Constellation' offers some theme-based music with a jazz-rock to progressive rock.

When I first saw the thread I got excited but once I listened to the camples, I was a bit let down. Nothing exciting or forward-pushing with these snippets...and once the singing started, it was all over for me.

Disappointing, and I'm a huge PJ, JG & Brand X fan.

Yeah I have to say the vocals are a bit weak unfortunately.

    Hi folks,

    Thank you for checking this.
The reason why I posted the thread is because I am related to this release. I played support guitars, etc.

Mark is a good friend of mine and he is an outstanding artist in many aspects.
I know some of you expect Cymbalic Encounters to be like Brand X because JG and PJ are playing.
However, CE is not a second coming of Brand X. It is a new concept founded by Mark.
Some of the songs are more melodious than technical. Those are based on Mark's musical background and his melodic senses.
Cymbalic Encouters is unique because JG and PJ play together in different expressions.

The title consists of 3 vocal songs and 5 instrumental songs with some jams.
The Japan release includes Live DVD. The band played some Brand X tunes, Nuclear Burn, etc. JG and PJ didn't play, though.

This release is worth checking in many ways!

So, maybe NOT a "must have for all Brand X fans"?

I first saw this 2 years ago IIRC... the singing ruins it
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

It's your choice but remember this is the ONLY project JG and PJ are playing in.
They won't play together again like they did in Brand X.

Hopefully it's better than the last one. The vocals were horrible, the material mediocre. Yes, Goodsall and Jones are on it. Maybe this one is better.
Listening to samples. Sounds ok, but don't sing Mark!

"Eyes Down" is as far as I know only available as download.

Thanks for the notice about this new one. I like both previous albums too.

Received the album + dvd yesterday. I love this kind of atmospheric jazz-rock with some Japan-influences.

Mark wrote to me the following:

(...) there will be a release of Eyes Down
together with some material from old bands I played in. It will be released through Gonzo
UK and is called Era-2 under my name.
So, a couple of more Gonzo-releases. I'm not always happy with the sound of their output (The Mars-Tapes comes to mind) or the choise of tracks they sellect (especially the Ph.D-debut had the single-versions in stead of the album-version on it), but they sure have some interesting albums coming out.

Just got that Era 2-disk. It's a nice archive-album with poppy songs featuring Percy Jones (the Eyes Down-stuff) and jazz-rock-meets prog-tracks (the Seacloud sessions). There's one track which was co-written by Peter Bardens, although on this version he didn't play.
