Sad news. That leaves just two of them. The only comedy albums I've ever owned. I have quite a few on CD and LP, including some "solo" albums.
"He's no fun, he fell right over"
Still a big Firesign fan.
Saw them live a couple of times.
Looks like this weekend may call for the spinning of a couple Firesign albums.
And if there were a god, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence - Russell
Phil Austin was Nick Danger, Third Eye. He was Ruthless.
Was he on Child's Garden of Grass?
"Alienated-so alien I go!"
"Oh, you mean Nancy!"
Yep. It'll be a Firesign weekend for me as well.
I've got a bike you can ride it if you like
"Melanie Farber?"
Firesign is the prog of comedy.
"Melanie Faber???"
"Betty Jo Bialofski?"
"Oh, you mean Nancy!"
I've got a bike you can ride it if you like
"Malcolm X John Lennon, come in here and dig your Mother!"
"Not now, Mom, I gotta to the library and do my homewor...I mean, meet my connection"
"Oh, you can't fool me! I know you're in one of those underground study groups! This will just kill your father!"
I don't know if the above exchange was one that Austin was involved in, but the piece it's quoted from, Le Trente Huit-Cunegonde has always been one of my favorites, and one of the first things I think of whenever anyone mentions Firesign Theater, along with the Tonto First National Bank (where a customer is robbed at gun point by an ATM machine because his account is overdrawn..."You're in luck, that's a collector's item! Congratulations, pardner! You're now in the black!"), side one of How Can You Be In Two Places At Once When You're No Place At All (would you buy a car from Ralph Spoilsort?) and the whole of Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me The Pliers.
Fuck. I am not happy about this.
I'm sure I'll be able to eulogize in a day or so, but this is a bummer. I love the Firesign's work. They are comedic heroes of mine.
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world.
Missed this till now - damn, love Firesign.
