I made my last comments before actually being able to watch the latest episode. Now that I've watched it, most of my comments still stand, but the one about Rick's expectations being reset is the understatement of the year, lol.
But holy crap, what a brutal and sadistic episode. Gut wrenching stuff.

So it appears more people are giving less off a crap about the current TWD story arc - let's shift gears and say if you were locked in a prison which song played repeatedly would break you.
I'll go with this one -
“From thirty feet away she looked like a lot of class. From ten feet away she looked like something made up to be seen from thirty feet away.” – Philip Marlowe
...this is the song that never ends ...

It's no longer a zombie show. Maybe that's been the case for a while, but I think it's really moved on from the whole zombie genre it began with. I think I'm done watching.
Last nights mid season finale was quite good, Rick and most of the gang are back together and looks like there is going to be an all out war to take out Neegan.
I liked last nights episode too, but have found this season pretty unfulfilling so far. I'm not goin anywhere though. Still a favorite.

I think Neegan is going to get eaten by a Tiger, and Rick will set it up, or incidentally be fighting Neegan and put him in the Tiger's way.
I'm still in, but more for the unintentional comedy at this point.

Anybody here still watching? Thought I'd bump this up since season 8 started this past Sunday. I think it started very promising. No spoilers, but the Negan story line is pretty much following the comic.
Eric: "What the hell Hutch, it's all Rush, what if we wanted a little variety?"
Hutch: "Rush is variety, Bitch! Rule number one: in my van, its Rush! All Rush, all the time...no exceptions."

I bailed on the show early last year. The season opener was terrible and the storyline has fallen completely flat. "Negan" ruined every scene he was in with groan-worthy over-acting.
Checking out a season summary on the internet, it looks like I didn't miss much.
Anyway, I'm all about second chances, so I tuned in on Sunday. Looks like the show is back to being its default of "very entertainingly bad" (as opposed to last season's unwatchably bad, and something that had occasionally approached good at various times in seasons 1, 5 and 6). Minimal Negan, Rick gathering the troops for a fight - looks like things could be back. Sure, there was some terrible writing. Sure, the physical logistics of the story made zero sense, as if often the case when there are too many moving parts (We've seen zombie hordes shamble slowly across terrain before - so the ones led by Daryl on his motorcycle must have been borrowed from 28 Days Later?). Sure, there was just plain unbelievable stupidity (how could Rick have possibly missed Negan when he started shooting? Why did Gabriel *not* immediately shoot Negan once he encountered him in the shelter? So dumb...).
I tend to agree with both of the previous posts. Seems as though the show has started to lose what was once a loyal fan base. For whatever reason, Robert Kirkman has decided to have the show parallel the original comic story line and this seems to be the downfall for most fans. What was once an edgy and at times scary show has itself turned into a comic. The Negan character has become a joke and I fear the show's writers will stretch it out for all 16 episodes of the season. I really can't see the series going past season 9 and I think that's only because AMC has already picked it up for one more season.
It's too bad, a show that once had so much promise is ending this way. I will still watch. I suppose I just can't take my eyes off this train wreck.
Here's a pretty scathing review for anyone interested. Lots of spoilers in the review.

Ah I'm still fine with it and all of it's flaws. Mindless fun. I don't watch a show about zombies for deep storylines.

As a guy who's been with the show since the beginning, through its ups and downs, last week's opener was pretty lame.
They went through all the usual motions, from bad speeches to bad shooting to bad decisions and other inexplicable tidbits that just made me realize the best thing to do is wait for another Night/Dawn/Day of the Dead-styled humans vs. zombie battle. Nothing's held up to that great scene with Glenn and the other guy stuck in the revolving door, surrounding by zombies, since. Yeah, Glenn's and Abraham's death scenes were brutal enough, but since then it's resolved back to a quasi-ballet. And the "Jadis & the Goths of the Dump" crack me up. But The Kingdom is just a joke, from the way they talk to the vast quantities of mystery meat they have in abundance to keep that tiger from taking a chunk out of Ezekiel's liver.
You'd think Gabriel would have something resembling a spine by now. Negan's telling him "I hope you got your shittin' pants on!" Gabriel should go "I hope your coffin's back from the wood shop!" and then squeeze the trigger. Negan was already wounded. It only takes one hit.
I was watching with my son, but we got kind of bored a few episodes into season 6. But I just got a cheap set of season 6 dvds, and plan to start catching up.
The season opener wins my award for the greatest "Gilligan's Island Moment" in TV history. Rick and his crew roll into Negan's compound for a surprise attack, they get out of the cars, point all their guns at Negan's front door, must be 20 to 30 guns pointed at the door, including machine guns... then Negan walks out. And they talk to him instead of just shoot him dead? And then obviously Negan gets away, dodging machine gun fire.
I have no idea why I keep watching the show other than my investment in it. This is the most confusing season, I have no idea what they are trying to do or where each little group is at.
The show has never been able to top the "Governor" storyline.
OK...even I am having a hard time now.

Who's the guy from Atlanta holding up Rick? I don't remember him.
