Haha! What's funny about that is that Mike and I recently made identical Wayside orders!

They'll be in DC end of July as well. Was planning on going.

If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Very underrated band. Like so many of Steve's signings (in the greyzone between jazz/rock/contemporary) in the 2000s. More folks should get to hear them.

Oh no, please, don't make more suggestions like this! It will get too expensive, I just had to buy that album. I love it!

The Orchestre National de Jazz (currently directed by Olivier Benoît) has its way with minimalism :

Live version of "Europa : Paris" (2014) :

Live version of "Europa : Berlin" (2015)

Any idea if this new ONJ material is on disc? I have several recordings from over the years.

    It is :
    http://www.amazon.fr/Europa-Orchestr...tional+de+jazz
    http://www.amazon.fr/Europa-Berlin-O...tional+de+jazz

Good stuff, but nevertheless a far cry from the Claude Barthélemy golden period (1989-91) - not for the faint-hearted !
http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B005...dm_ws_sp_ps_dp [also available lossless on Qobuz ; CDs are oop]

The ONJ, since it changes director every 2-3 years, produces mixed results... The ones I mention here would be my favourite.

Over half of ECM production can be called "minimalist Jazz Rock", although I never heard this exact term.

Anyone who likes the ONJ clips should also check Olivier Benoit's former band Circum Grand Orchestra

    http://www.circum-disc.com/category/...and-orchestra/

*Their newest album "12" is done w/o Benoit (since he have left for ONJ) but still good.

Yes, and also La Pieuvre on the same label.

    Good stuff, UM.
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

So since the thread started I've picked up

    Sha's Feckel - Greatest Hits
    Necks - Drive By
    Nik Bartsch Ronin - Llyria
    Ikarus - Echoes

All great. I'm really digging The Necks, they may well become a bit of a compulsion for me, I think I'll be picking up a lot more of their stuff (already got Hanging Garden)

DOn't forget Sonar, whose Static Motion on Cuneiform, is wonderful...as is Black Light, set for release next month.

An underrated epic. Not at all "jazz" (although the intro has that Coltrane / Mahavishnu / Köhntarkösz feel), but a subtle and coherent blend of new wave and minimalism, with a glorious multi-guitars sound.

    that's more a typical post-rock track, IMHO

For anyone who'd like a more low-key complement to BLUE (also a great pick above), I'd highly recommend Spin Marvel. The processed trumpet gives a sort of Jon Hassell vibe, but it's its own different thing. Oh hey, looks like their second album is on sale at the moment.
