Good for him, that's quite an honour. Loved his work with NUCLEUS especially, and of course later with SOFT MACHINE.

Yes, I've heard her majesty is a massive Softs freak !
Her majesty's a pretty nice girl but she doesn't have a lot to say.

It's cool that the Queen totally digs Soft Machine.
The Queen actually only likes Softs through 4th.
Wasn't he the one who composed the music that was used in that one diamond commercial in the mid 90's?
Impressed and delighted he's been honored

I blame Wynton, what was the question?
There are only 10 types of people in the World, those who understand binary and those that don't.
Apparently, the award committee never heard Adiemus. On second thought, they probably did.

Wyatt is pretty darn lukewarm towards Jenkins in the recent biog on the former. I really like Jenkin's work with Nucleus (and We'll Talk in particular), but somehow I never warmed to his input with the Softs except for parts of Bundles. Adiemus is something I have absolutely no time for whatsoever.

Yes. The article mentions his popular and accessible classical music and that DeBeers commercial is where it started. The article barely mentions "he started out as a jazz musician" which as we all know is the only part of his long career we really like.
The rest is dreck for the unwashed masses.
People who pooh-pooh the Jenkins period of Soft Machine should try the live Cuneiform releases.
I reckon it was Prince Phillip's fondness for this that swung it for Karl

I like his moustache.
I don't think many around here do pooh-pooh the Jenkins eras of Soft Machine. Most comments I can recall about the 6/7 era or Bundles/Softs have been very positive. When the 2 cd Alive & Well came out, I started a thread about how even that one was a damn good effort if you hear the whole concert (much of which is on the bonus disc). The original LP was just sequenced very badly. And I got mostly supportive posts on that.
None of that explains of course how he got involved with the dreck that is Adiemus, but he's now a millionaire and a celebrated composer as a result of it. So I can't really blame him too much...
I aalso have memories of a lot of people dissing Jenkins in Machine.... not necessarily on this site, though...
Some really disliked his composing style, but I suspect that a lot of the naysayers are really onto him (KJ), because Hopper left , because he strongly disliked Jenkins....
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
