NOW we're talking about progressive music!

AEC-A Jackson in Your House/Message to Our Folks
Air-Air Lore (just to be different)
    Threadgill-TheComplete Novus and Columbia Recordings
    Leroy Jenkins-Leroy Jenkins Live!
    Wadada Leo Smith-Hearts Reflections

So many great albums, though...hard to pick.

I have never heard of Matana Roberts, so I will have to check him (her?) out. But these are all artists I love to death. I have all those original Delmark recordings of so many of these guys, and I lived in Chicago area for nearly 25 years. Before that I helped put on shows with the AEC and its members at Mich State- I remember hanging out with Roscoe Mitchell and Anthony Braxton during a series of duets they did- they were furiously writing scores in the back room, and then shuffling the sheets between each show. I remember Lester Bowie as prickly, Joseph Jarman as elf-like (for want of a better term), Malachi Favors as just a hugely friendly person (and oddly enough I later treated him as a patient when I was a student at National College of Chiropractic, working at its inner city clinic in Chicago). Some of these discs are just legendary, Braxton in particlar but Abrams as well.

I got to hang with Leroy Jenkins back in the early 80's, myself, before and after a solo performance. Great fun. Very inspiring.

Love all those albums, too. Many of these guys have boxed sets, I thought about listing all the ones I know, but that Threadgill set in particular never gets old for me.

Jay.Dee, thank you! I will certainly get. I see I do not know of her since she is younger and was not present in the early days of the AACM, which is when I was heavily involved. Very cool!

Tonight I will listen to Ornette, and then to Lester, both RIP.
