Rank Your Top Five All-Time Spacerock Bands

    Pink Floyd
    Ozrix
    Djam Karet
    Allen's Gong
    Eccentric Orbit
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

No. 1 is easily Midnight Juggernauts.

After that, I guess No. 2 would be Pink Floyd. I really don't follow the genre enough to pick 5.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

First off I'm going to say that any such list has to include Pink Floyd and Hawkwind as the 2 big Kahunas of the 1970s in space rock. You can, if you wish, drag in Sun Ra from the world of jazz, too. And lets not forget Daevid Allen & Gong But It's much more fun to make a list that doesn't include the obvious suspects so. . .

    The Spacious Minds
    Vespero
    The Oresund Space Collective
Anything with Sula Bassana /Dave Schmidt
    Hidria Spacefolk

Honorable mentions to Causa Sui, Sendelica, Mooch, and Samsara Blues Experiment, and My Sleeping Karma

Is Djam Karet a space rock band? I mean, there is a lot of deep space in their catalog, but is it who they are? Or is it just that hey have made enough contributions to justify the epithet?

I'm having a hard time narrowing things down, so quibbling over definitions may help me cut things down to five.

Pick any five from the following list.

    Pink Floyd
    Hawkwind
    Gong

    Djam Karet
    Ozric Tentacles

    Causa Sui
    Monomyth

If you are new to the genre, check out the first three. They are the ones who stole the fire from Olympus.
If you are familiar with those, check out Monomyth. They have two albums and both are amazing.

What hooked me in was The Summer Sessions, even though they are not available on CD anymore. However, their last studio effort Euporie Tide is pretty sweet.

this "Spacerock" category should now be open to Kosmische and "Krautrock"

Ash Ra Tempel fits here methinks

I tend to agree, I tend to think of these bands having similar vibe & mindset.

I think "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is about as space-rock as one can get.
