"Crafty Hands" from Happy The Man also has so much fusion and progressive rock in it, I wouldn't want to choose. Bruford and David Sancious also and what about "Romantic Warrior" from Return To Forever and Kenso.

Without wanting to pick nits, Dreams was more a jazz-rock group, which is different than fusion. It was a bunch of jazzes (for the most part...) that wanted to play rock music. More s slightly jazzier alternative to similar bands of the time including Chicago, If, etc...

That said, still a great group. Rosters club and I saw them in a very small (75-seat) venue called Le Hibou at the time of the second album, where bassist Doug Lubahan and Abercrombie were gone, replaced by Will Lee and Bob Mann. I think cobham was also gone but who replaced him? Can't recall. Still they were terrific.

Aw, come on, no love for the Jeff Beck fusion period (Wired, Blow By Blow, There and Back, Live w/Jan Hammer)?

gotta throw Cobham's Spectrum in there too, love those rock guitar players.

Weather Report, all eras, and I see someone put Zawinul Syndicate out there too, so, yeah....
Mahavishnu Orchestra, esp. Mark II (Visions...), though the first and even the 80's incarnation score high with me.
Chick Corea Elektric Band, leaving out Light Years.....
Return to Forever--both early (Latin/Acoustic) and later (pyrotechnic), the final big band incarnation less so....
Steps/Steps Ahead--just because no one's mentioned them, and they're fuckin' GREAT!!!

I'm sure there's love for those albums amongst us fusion fans. Maybe if it was "top 6;" certainly if it was "top 10."

I think Snarky Puppy is one of the best live bands ever, myself. But I have a hard time calling them "Fusion." Still....fucking incredible band, especially live.

    I bef-g to differ...

I much prefer the Vitous or A Johnson eras... and in some ways , even the Bailey-era...

When with Jacon I found the band's albums a little too much "all over the place" and not at all cohesive (on top of that Zawie's choice of synth in that era were not the best (for my ears, that is)

Jaco was an outstanding bassist, but he overdid almost everything he played with WR (I'm not so adamant on his other contributions and solo albums). Knowing howthe band functioned (Zawie the tyranic emperor and Shorter the inamovible heir), I'm surpeised Zawie stuck with Jaco so long...
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
