Ryley Walker (shades of Buckley, Martyn and Van)

Ryley Walker (from Chicago) and two albums (plus a demo cassette)

outstanding retro-folk rock, oscillating between John Martyn, Tim Bucley, Pentangle and many more of the blessed era

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

Saw him just a couple months ago. I was fairly impressed--it was an interesting combination of folksy Americana with fusion-era sonic textures, and he's no slouch with the vocal acrobatics either.

I found the album at a B&M store in Brussels...

I snatched their last copy (they had some 8 or 9 ordered, which "sold out" in two weeks)... the guys told me he was thinking about a reorder

Surprised to see him get a mention here. Yes, he's okay, but very derivative and some miles from Prog.

Ryley Walker has collaborated with the Chicago band Running to record two "longform tracks that encompass atmospheric soundscapes, noise and motoroik drone rock." Not sure what motoroik drone rock is (if anything), but the whole thing sounds proggy to my ears. I'm enjoying it! YMMV and all that, of course.
