Listening to this now. Am I wrong, or does Magic Pie do what Dream Theater does but way better? And DT hasn’t been bad lately. One of the MP vocalists sounds like Bowie to me which helps. But the whole band cranks!

Haven't noticed them sounding like Dream Theatre though I'll listen out for it, the next time I give it a spin. They've always reminded me of Styx.

    Great band, regardless.

Great band. They are on my list to bring to Chicago.

KFAD is such a great album. I even like the new one. Geezer got me involved with their early efforts and I haven't looked back. I just don't see the relationship with DT or Styx.
The older I get, the better I was.

    Different ears and all that.

The keyboards often have a Dennis de Young feel, I reckon.

I think it was the fast guitar runs, which seemed to rival Petrucci’s. But the compositions are overall better than DT’s. I didn’t think of Styx. While I like Styx, I think they’re much more lightweight, while Magic Pie veers into metal. But they’re pretty versatile.
