    Prog Planets

Hi there, I was thinking about the planet Gong, and planet Kobaia, which are two planets created (or, depending on your philosophy, which inspire) by musicians that we love (Daevid Allen and Christian Vander). I was wondering if you knew any other prog-planets ? I could only think of the earth-planet like on the Fragile cover, with no name.

    Nice!

We'll have a prog solar system before long at this rate.

Perelandra (a name for Venus) from Glass Hammer, which of course is based on CS Lewis' Space Trilogy (awful awful books in my opinion).

Ziltoidia 9, the home planet of Ziltoid the Omniscient, who travels to earth to get the ultimate cup of coffee.

When appalled by the taste, he declares war on earth.

From the prog-metal epic by Devond Townsend.
And if there were a god, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence - Russell

How about all of the "Planets of the Solar Federation," from Rush' 2112?

In his dreams he's taken away by alien beings
To another galaxy, deep in space
To a planet where a man can live out his fantasies
    And experience unimaginable pleasures

Eloy has an album named Planets... dunno if they have names though
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

For myself, its not that they were terrible but more that they were too obsolete for me to enjoy

Salta is the name of the protagonist's home planet and a "planet of silence" he visits is called Syton. I don't think the others are named.

Progres 2's marvelous science-fiction concept album Dialog s Vesmírem does talk about "Hieronymous Bosche's planet", but I dont know if that is its name or simply an attempt at description. The part two of the song suggests that the place is ruled by heroin and tells any visitor to piss off while they still have the chance, so it could simply be away of telling that the going gets rather surreal down there.

That's good. I'll make a map of it all. I need more planets! I think it can be worthy to determine for those planets if the bands pretend to be from there, or just talk about it, or plan to go there…

CMX's space opera Talvikuningas takes place across the galaxy, but the only planet named is Laertes Prime. Well, there is a mention of a rebellion in the Pleiades and an uprising in Orion, but those only count if you think of them referring to invented planets in those constellations/clusters.

José Cid meets "a fantastic planet" called Mellotron in his space odyssey 10 000 Anos depois entre Vénus e Marte!

David Bedford's Rigel 9 probably doesn't count, especially as he didn't invent it but borrowed it from Ursula Le Guin.

There are a couple prog musicians who have tackled suites from Holst's The Planets. Nobody's done the whole thing that I know of.

We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air

If all these are admissible as "prog" then "Night Flight to Venus" by Boney M counts as well!
