I was told he had a hard on for getting it the way he wanted. I always thought Page was responsible for the over all sound of LZ and that it would be more his doing than Bonham.
1. Was that sound that I hear so much about really that influential? Doesn't make me do back flips but each to his own. It's like that first KC album. I don't get it, how influential it was, but I wasn't there and didn't hear it until a few years ago. How could I put it into context?
2. Was Bonham or Page more to account for the sound? From what I was told Bonham really was anal at soundcheck about his bass drums getting that feeling that hits you right in the heart. True?
Guy I was talking to is cool but he has that LZ are the only Rock God's he knows of syndrome. I know so little about LZ but I think he's wrong. I don't see Bonham as a audiophile trying to get the best sound but about all I know about the dude is he partied hard and trashed some hotel rooms while playing drums for LZ.
I'm in the very small minority. All the ever really touched me was Zep 2 and 4 and his drum sound never really did anything for me. Great drummer and rhythm section for LZ but the rest never did much for me so I'm clueless in this convo with this dude.
Also, he was talking about Carmine Appice's influence, and friendship, with Bonham. Anything there?
