Bill in the Tea - Big Tree

I actually have this CD a while now but it got somehow overlooked in my Cd listening pile.
Lately I've been able to give this CD the attention it deserves.

A young band from Sicily. Very cool stuff: Some Floyd, some Zappa, some Cantebury, a bit of post rock and a touch of RIO. A guitar dominated sound with very tasty keys. The quality of the material, playing and production are all very good. The only weak part are the vocals but luckily they sing on only 2 of the songs.

I'll be certainly playing this CD a lot more in the future then I have the past half year.

I've had this for a while too and like you probably need to give it a bit more attention. My impressions of it are so-so. Some parts I like, others I think they sort of lose the plot. But I've kept it feeling it may need some time to get my ears around. I'll tee it up tonight and see how it fares.

Well, I gave this a fresh listen. These guys are kind of all over the place. Sometimes they sound like 70s Genesis, sometimes they sound like alt-rock. And they cover lots of bases in between. Good, I guess, for those who like eclectic blends.

Personally, I don't walk away with a very strong sense of "personality" from the band. And I think a lot of their songs meander too much and don't establish enough of a "center." Vocals are only so-so, but they are relatively sparse. That said, when they hit on a cool idea, it's really cool, and there are enough of those sprinkled throughout the album to keep me somewhat interested.

So I'll keep it in the rotation and see if more form emerges for me with subsequent listens.
