Interesting thread idea -- famous paintings and the music that goes with 'em.

Munch's The Scream = Careful With That Axe Eugene

Warhol's Campbell Soup can = Money

Manet's Luncheon on the Grass = Bow Wow Wow's The Last of the Mohicans

Mona Lisa = Brian Wilson's Smile

Van Gogh's Sunflowers = Grantchester Meadows

'The Scream' could also be paired with '21st Century Schizoid Man'.

On seeing the thread title I assumed it was going to be The Great Gig in the Sky.

"The Scream" would also fit well with Midnight oil - Scream in Blue.

Van Gogh - "The Starry Night" would pair with DonMcLean - "Vincent", though animation would be unnecessary.

I always thought Clare Torry's vocalizations on "Great Gig in the Sky" were meant to be more orgasmic than cries of agony, but whatever.

You're telling me that women sound like that when they orgasm? Think I'll stay gay.

. Next you're going to tell me condoms have printed instructions, if you unroll them all the way.

^^ They have little printed messages inside, like a Chinese fortune cookie. Messages such as "You are going to <insert naughty word of choice> a tall dark stranger."

I would have thought "primal" would have indicated something from Meddle or earlier.

Impressive. Thanks for sharing. Although it somehow confirms that this is my least favourite song on Dark Side...

Love that song, love that album even more ("counting back 10, 9, 8.....").

Speaking of Van Gogh: there's an album from Van Eck: http://www.vangoghbyvaneck.com/

'Vincent' is more in the 'songs inspired by artwork' category; see also King Crimson, 'The Night Watch'. I'm struggling to think of any others; plenty of songs, prog and otherwise, take their inspiration from books, but less so from the visual arts (I'll probably now be proved hideously and embarrassingly wrong...).

    Awful!
First of all they've assumed the screamer in the painting is a woman.
Secondly there is nothing primal about singing a melody and in tune.
Thirdly, the 2 blokes talking is totally unnecessary.

I thought the same. It's possible to draw a distinction between technological talent and artistic talent. While I acknowledge it's very clever how someone has managed to do an animation that really looks like this painting come to life, it seems rather a pointless exercise except to say "Hey, look what I did!" It adds nothing to my appreciation of either the painting or the song.

It occurs to me that this is precisely the opposite of a music video - it's a "painting audio".

    Yep. Pretty much.
