"Lambert & Stamp" -- New documentary film

(Pocket review from San Francisco's CBS affiliate)

Lambert & Stamp takes us to swingin’ 1960’s London, where two unknown, but ambitious filmmakers are trying to make a reality television show. Instead, they stumble upon creating rock and roll history. Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp (Stamp, the brother of actor Terence Stamp who appears in the film) are two filmmakers hoping for a hit. Through mod fashion, dangerous gangs and a sometimes glossy, spotty ride through the chaos; something suddenly changes it all. It’s not a traditional doc about The Who, but you do get a feeling of authenticity about that time and place and the wild characters who would deliver the greatest rock opera (Tommy) of all time.
I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.

Absolute MUST SEE for me. Thanks for the heads-up!

Love those clips of the early, pre-fame Who. What the hell is that weird, tinny version of "Magic Bus" on the soundtrack? Definitely want to see this!

Sounds like a Pete Townshend demo or something.

So looking forward to this one.

Amazing that The Who (Pete and Roger) are still out there 50 years on. I saw them at The Royal Albert Hall a few weeks ago, admittedly they have another six musicians filling the space of two, but it was still a bloody brilliant trawl through their repertoire.

Rats! For some reason I thought this was about Dave Lambert of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross fame.

Duncan's going to make a Horns Emoticon!!!

I liked him better in Strawbs.

Actually Dave (in the Strawbs) is the first thought that jumped into my head as well, until the "and Stamp" part registered

Is there anything in this film that discusses their work with The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, or does it just focus on The Who?

    Must see, for me!

I'm not sure if I should be embarrassed that I knew exactly who the topic was about. The Who were one of the first bands I read a lot about as a kid, so I knew when I was like 10 or 11 years old who Chris Stamp and Kit Lambert. And yes, I also knew that Stamp's brother was General Zod (and later brilliantly played a drag queen in Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert).
