Would have gone again but my first grandchild is due May 19. I can't take the chance.

For folks who can't/don't want to make it to Magma, it looks like a Gabriel Tribute act is at the Centre d'art La Chapelle on Friday.

The standouts from yesterday's shows (in my opinion) were Elephants Of Scotland and Anekdoten. EoS kicked the interest level up quite a bit from the previous acts with a substantially more interesting rhythm section than the rest of the heavily neo-prog stuff being served up, but still, it was a rather "samey" evening. I have to say I was completely unfamiliar with Anekdoten and the first few songs really seemed like more of the same with very little to interest me or my wife. They did eventually play some more challenging tunes, so I enjoyed about 40-50% of their show. Even so, I'm not inclined to explore further.

Keep in mind that I was coming off from seeing Magma the night before, so the bar was set pretty high in terms of complexity. We were definitely in the minority, though, as most of the acts were received quite positively by the audience. It will be interesting to see how Frogg Cafe fares with this crowd...coming up in about an hour....

The rest of the bands did pretty well, IMO. The audience seemed to enjoy Frogg Cafe's far more improvisational approach which was nice to see. Il Castello di Atlante had some very interesting tunes. I knew nothing about them before the show. They seemed like they were having a great time. Kaipa Da Capo was fun - glad I got to see them.
