    Mike Oldfield rarities CD

31-track double album featuring disc of rarities, remixes and b-sides to launch this month
A Mike Oldfield compilation featuring 31 tracks including a disc of rarities and remixes will be launched on April 27, it’s been confirmed.

The Best Of: 1992-2003 will be released by Rhino Records and focuses on his time with Warner Bros, drawing on his eight studio releases from the period between 1992’s Tubular Bells II and Tubular Bells 2003.

It’s described as “a fascinating snapshot of an exciting period in Oldfield’s illustrious career. His tenure at Warner Bros is a constantly surprising, ever-evolving body of work. It’s a quiet gift that goes on giving.”

A second disc contains rarities, remixes and b-sides and includes electronic outfit the Orb’s mix of Oldfield track Sentinel which was released as a single in 1992.

The album is currently available to pre-order.

His last album was 2014’s Man On The Rocks, his first studio recording since 2008’s Music Of The Spheres.

This is "The Best Of: 1992-2003" so that song is quite naturally excluded.

Oh well, I guess that's what I get for not reading the OP carefully enough. Even still, Pictures In The Dark has only ever appeared on CD on a couple now out of print best ofs, and I think my point that someone's being a dick by keeping unavailable still holds.

It was on the 3-cd 'The Platinum Collection', most of the non-album singles were on that. Failing that it will almost certainly turn up on a remaster of a relevant album- the Virgin album remasters are still ongoing.

Not interested in other people's remixes of Mike tracks. I got a lot of MO rarities in the Elements boxed set a few years ago. Here's an idea Mike, how about recording something new???

How about recording something new and better than the tepid "Man on the Rocks?" And I'm a fan of Mike's '80s output...

How about going back to the style of Ommadawn & Hergest Ridge?

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

Yeah, too bad The Platinum Collection is out of print and going for absurd prices on the second hand market. Pictures In The Dark was recorded and released in the mid 80's, so it should have been on one of those albums from that era.

Speaking of Mike, can anyone review the various DVDs he has available? I have the insanely great "Elements: Best Of" and the so-so "Montreux."

I love the multi-angle feature on the Exposed DVD. I also really like the TB2 Live (which also includes the slightly-less enjoyable TB3 Live) DVD. What a setting for a show.

I only have Crises At Wembley (1983), which is part of the Crisis-boxset. Always nice to see Simon Phillips live

Didn't know this was becoming so expensive so soon. Well, I actually bought it for the 5.1 surround mix and the DVD is a nice bonus.

I pretty much bought it for the live material & dvd, I'm not huge fan of much past the title track. Can't imagine I'll buy much past this one as I've already got Amarok, TB2, TB3 & Songs Of Distant Earth.
