    Big Ears Festival

This past weekend, Big Ears Festival ran in Knoxville, TN with Kronos Quartet, Laurie Anderson, Terry Riley, Nels Cline, The Bad Plus, AWVFTS, Max Richter, and more. Here's a run through most of the sets I saw with Big Ears High Notes and Low Roars. http://wp.me/p4ZE0X-4Ll

I wasn't in Knoxville for the entire weekend, and i only saw three acts(and a symposium), but i dug what is saw.The Bad Plus Friday evening, superb as always(i've seen them in NYC a couple of times.Loscil, solo electronica on Saturday-pretty good, and lutenist Jozef Van Wissem, also on Saturday-wonderful.

I was sorry to hear that Harold Budd wouldn't appear, due to injury.I do hope to see him live sometime soon.

I thought it was a well run, well planned festival.I was especially glad to meet John Battema and have a chance to talk with him face to face.

I was there for the whole ride and still missed all three of those acts. I wished I'd caught them.

I was there and...yeah, I saw a lot of acts ;-) I think the final tally was 22 in total. Sleep is VERY overrated

Highlights were Ben Frost, Loscil, Rival Consoles, and Winged Victory.

The only set that was kind of a letdown was Grouper...I knew she was fairly introverted but the set felt almost awkward, like I had invaded her bedroom and wasn't 100% welcome.

Wish I'd known you were there, you, Walt and I could've had a mini-PE moment around Winged Victory or Bad Plus :-)

    Can't wait for next year.

How do we find out about these festivals before they happen?

In truth, despite the amount of diversity I was starting to think Walt and I were the only ones on PE even remotely interested in these lineups. But...I'm pretty hardcore about Big Ears so rest assured I'll be posting something next fall when the next lineup and ticket sale dates are announced
