    Seaprog web site stolen...

During a recent attempt to switch our web hosting service, someone swooped in and bought our domain name, Seaprog.org. Yes, we are pissed!

While we attempt to get our site back, and/or register and activate a new site name, here are some other ways to stay in touch with us:

Follow the updates on this thread: http://www.progressiveears.org/forum...ming-in-August

Our Facebook page is consistently updated at https://www.facebook.com/SeaprogFestival

Ticket sales continue (and you want to buy tickets, right? Right?? ) by going directly to PayPal at Click Here

    Ugh!

    Your Seaprog Organizers

Wow serious? Why would anyone else want the seaprog domain name? Best wishes getting the name back. Look forward to the show anyway!

Apparently they want to sell it back to us at a profit.

ProgDay had the exact same thing happen 7 years ago. Go to the old Progday.com site and you will find a bunch of stuff in Japanese. I have no idea what it says, but whoever it is basically came in and grabbed it out from under us at the time. It really sucked and caught us totally by surprise. It is the reason why the ProgDay website is now progday.net

Okay, we have a new site address: http://seaprogfest.org/. We decided not to give in to extortion. That jerk can keep the old address.

I was hoping you would do that, I'd never want to give selfish morons like that any money, better to change the site address.

Prog Terrorists....... there's a new one!

Sorry for all the trouble you're having to go through, John, but the new domain name works like a charm; good work!

Of course they did, but there goes their anonymity - what contact details for payment did they provide?

Oh, we never made an offer. But if you want to know who it is and where they live, it's easy enough to find. Put this in the browser address: WHOIS www.seaprog.org

Interestingly, I used to be able to look at the seaprog website at work (www.seaprog.org) But now I no longer can, our company service blocks it.

That's because The Jerk (now his official title, with caps and everything!), put some spam on there. What a Jerk.

Do you think it's anyone who actually has any connection to you and or Seaprog?

  15. #15
^ I doubt it. There are actually vultures ... er, people who sit around and wait for domain names to come available, so they can swoop them up and try to sell them back for a profit. Doing the whois search shows that this particular guy holds almost 1,400 domain names.

And there is probably a special piece of software that constantly monitors the net for any change such as the one John, Dennis and Jon tried to do, then snaps up the name if it's unguarded for even a millisecond. All of which is, for The Jerk, a win-win situation: If he can't get a stolen site-name ransomed by its real owners, he can probably rent it at a profit to some porno or online gambling concern, which will be happy to pay him for a redirect that casts their net wider. It also wouldn't surprise me if he's already a millionaire at the age of 19.

I'd hazard a guess that the address and phone number (and possibly the name) provided to the registrant are fake.

Maybe, but since it's most likely a billing address, maybe not. It wasn't illegal what he did. Just lame.

Here in Oslo we are gathering a prog posse to locate, round up and exterminate these intruders and place their corpses next to those of other adversaries to the prog such as Martin Bormann and Jimmy Hoffa.

Good! But I mean questions like What's the rate at the official Seaprog hotel? Will people be allowed to leave and re-enter the venue? Will the dealers room stay open during performances? Hound him mercilessly for answers.
