looks like it'll be yet another VdGG album in my shelves.
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

I'll definitely pick this up, but it doesn't look like there's a lot on there that I don't have in some form or another.

My co-author of the VdGG book, Phil Smart, was helping Mark Powell out on this (I think they'd float questions to Phil re: what's out there BBC-wise, etc). Will be good to have all of these gathered in one package; much of it has not been released officially. Wonder if there will be a booklet with pix, etc, or if it'll be sparser packaging...

Some on Facebook, etc, have been saying they don't like the cover. I kind of do like it, though. It reminds me of a 60s jazz album or something. I like the vibe of it.

Thats the reason I pre-ordered it- to have it all in the same place.
I did not go over all the songs, but does it have something that was previously unavailable?

Unreleased: Disc One - tracks 8, 10, 11, 12; Disc Two - just track 10. Many appeared on the Maida Vale cd, and on the VdGG box set Virgin put out 15 yrs ago. But it's nice to have them all in one place.

Track 12, Killer (from '71) is waaaaaay better than the rather controlled version on H to He. Totally manic/psychotic - glorious twisted stuff!

    Oh! Good to have "Killer"!

The version of Maida Vale that I have is only a single disc consisting of Darkness, Man-Erg, and what is on disc 2 songs 3-7, so this more than doubles what is on Maida Vale.

    Done deal for me.

I've always enjoyed the BBC sessions by Hammill and VDGG. Probably have most of this stuff already but that won't stop me from buying an official representation.

Have to admit I understand the band about this artwork... it's pretty ugly... at least the colour scheme is very UN-VdGG

Must-buy but yeah that cover art is just horrible. And I like 60s jazz album covers...

The cover is awesome indeed! :-) Good balance of colours, mixing of shapes... kinda reminds me of italian futurists, which is quite suitable for VDGG.

Blimey was The Box really 15 years ago, where does the time go? I also have Maida Vale, but will no doubt be getting this too, and I really like the cover art, it has a certain 60's "Blue Note" vibe.

The big attraction here is the BBC In Concert 1971 selections at the end of Disc One: Man Erg/W/Killer. I wonder if they've managed to source an original Transcription Disc for this, or even the master tape.

I never got Maida Vale back on release, so I'm anticipating this one.

The full track listing reconstructed from the existing sources (official Maida Vale, unofficial BBC Sessions and The Box anthology) should look like this:

    Disc: 1
Nov 18, 1968 (BBC Sessions, The Box)
    1. People You Were Going To 3:27
    2. Afterwards 4:38
    3. Necromancer 4:03

Jan 27, 1970 (BBC Sessions, The Box)
    4. Darkness 6:47
    5. After The Flood 10:53

    Jun 10, 1971 (BBC Sessions, Maida Vale 6 & 9, The Box 7)
    6. Man-Erg 10:11
    7. Theme One 2:57
    8. Vision 3:13
    9. Darkness 7:15

Sep 23, 1971, live at the Paris Theatre (BBC Sessions 11 & 12)
    10. Man-Erg
    11. W 5:06
    12. Killer 7:53

    Disc: 2
Dec 14, 1971 (BBC Sessions, The Box)
    1. Refugees 6:14

    Jul 3, 1975 (Maida Vale)
    2. Scorched Earth 9:40
    3. Sleepwalkers 8:58

    Apr 1, 1976 (Maida Vale)
    4. Still Life 7:20
    5. La Rossa 10:00

    Nov 11, 1976 (Maida Vale)
    6. When She Comes 8:08
    7. Masks 7:22

    Oct 24, 1977 (The Box)
    8. Cat's Eye / Yellow Fever 4:45
    9. The Sphinx In The Face 5:33

    1977??
    10. Fragments of) A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers / Sleepwalkers

It is all prime stuff, especially that we still lack any live documents from the band's early period. Although I have already the most of it, I'm in!
