Thread: Al Di Meola last night in Atlanta

Al Di Meola last night in Atlanta

Al Di Meola has returned with a tour seeing him revisit his classic period "Electric" days (Electric Rend., Casino, Spendido H., etc.) His band was smokin'. The tunes have been arranged slightly different from the original version but mostly true-to-form. The overall sound/mix was excellent, however, my only minor complaint is that the overall band volume could have been a bit louder. I can't speak to who was playing what as I don't really care all that much as long as the players are good and they all were!!! He played 2 news tunes from his upcoming album. Both were heavy electric GTR similar in vein to his classic period.

    We did the meet-and-greet..

Interesting story: In the 1980 February issue of GTR Player magazine, page 113, there is an ad showing Al Di Meola playing a Fydle GTR...on the SAME PAGE is an ad for GIT (Guitar Institute of Technology) that features me.

I showed this to Al and we took a picture of Him pointing to me (2nd from left with long blond hair) and me pointing to him in the magazine...see below...

Sounds fun! With that set list I would love to see him. Any mention of him releasing these shows on disc?

I saw him in DC last Thursday. Did he show off his fiancee at the show you saw.

Not during the show but yes during the VIP meet & greet...pretty nice looking

btw: the set-list was impressive...I can't recall songs by name but I certainly did recognize most of them.

She was in the front row. Between songs in the second set he made her stand up and take a bow, like it was an honor to be his fiancee. I think she was in the middle of doing her Algebra homework.

Will try and catch him at BB Kings in June. Would love to see him this April or May as Pollstar lists these as co-headlining shows with Billy Cobham!

    You kill me sometimes, Ed!

Doesn't he have some sort of ear thing going on? Tinnitus, maybe? Could explain the lower volume.

Then again, after the last show I saw, I would kill for a low-volume show. :/

    WOOHOOOOOOO I am so there!

while he's far from my fav Guitarist, I find his repertoire to be varied and interesting... and my wife liked his playing when we saw the RTF reunion.
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?
