    ProgArchives' Collaborators' 2014 Album List

This OP contains a list but this is not a list thread. Here it is...

    1. Opeth - Pale Communion
    2. IQ - The Road Of Bones
    3. Seven Impale - City Of The Sun
    4. Swans - To Be Kind
    5. Logos - L'enigma della vita
    6. Motorpsycho - Behind The Sun
    7. Pink Floyd - The Endless River
    8. Kayo Dot - Coffins On Io
    9. Dream The Electric Sheep - Heretics
    10. Knifeworld - The Unravelling

Whatcha think? How many have ye heard? How does it compare to your own top ten?

    My top 10 was

    1. Knifeworld - The Unravelling
    2. Univers Zero - Phosphorescent Dreams
    3. Atomic Ape - Swarm
    4. Sonar - Static Motion
    5. PoiL - Brossaklitt
    6. Guillaume Peret & The Electric Epic - Open Me
    7. Happy Family - Minimal Gods
    8. MoeTar - Entropy of the Century
    9. Ut Gret - Ancestors Trail
    10. Eccentric Orbit - Creation Of The Humanoids

PoiL & Ut Gret were just outside the Top 10 in 11th & 12th so I was pretty happy with the overall poll. I'll probably pick up Seven Impale & Kayo Dot from this list. The big question mark in the list is Pink Floyd. I'm pretty surprised it made so many top 10's, it's nice enough but really?

Who are the Progarchives Collaborators? The people who run Progarchives?

Yeah, the Floyd was on lots of lists but usually in the #5-#10 spots. Was surprised Opeth made the top spot. Here was my list:

    1. SWANS To Be Kind
    2. ADEBISI SHANK This Is The Third Album Of A Band Called Adebisi Shank
    3. MATS/MORGAN [schack tati]
    4. HAPPY FAMILY Minimal Gods
    5. DEERHOOF La Isla Bonita
    6. MOGWAI Rave Tapes
    7. KAYO DOT Coffins On Io
    8. PINK FLOYD The Endless River
    9. MOETAR Entropy Of The Century
    10. BOB DRAKE Lawn Ornaments

I think it's ProgArchives, a website that has nothing about bands like Brice Plays Drums and The River Empires, yet includes stuff I abhor like Swans.

These four are on my top ten as well. I haven't heard all the others, though.

Wow. Swans. All right. I can totally get why people would not like them, and I'm totally surprised to see them turn up on a Prog best of list.

    You and me both.

Overall...not too much to complain about. If nothing else it shows a wide swath of prog (and related) is popular at this moment.

For me, 2014 was a pretty good year overall...not many standouts but many in the very good to great camp.

WTF? I have that River Empires 2CD. They've released other stuff since then under a different name ? And they have something to do with The Dear Hunter?

These are good. But to be honest, last year's Kayo doesn't sit with the best of their releases; still almost anything they (and Toby Driver) do stays a chance of high score. Unlike Opeth and IQ.

^^ Since I was executive producer of Maudlin of the Well's "Part The Second," I'll thank you on Toby's behalf.*

*Ok, I got an executive producer credit because I was one of a number of people who partially crowd funded the album. But I like to parlay it into something more grandiose.

Big Toby fan here, and Coffins on Io is good-to-(sometimes)great, yet definitely not among his best work. IMHO, of course.
