Galactic B - you're not alone. I used to laugh at Carpenters music when they were popular. Missed the boat completely there afaic.
Yeah, she was definitely a solid, if not virtuoso drummer, but that voice.......
Still don't know why I didn't REALLY listen during their heyday. Her range was scary good, particularly the low end, and brother Richard, I can hear now but not then, was a superb arranger & producer.
She may have been troubled, insecure and anorexic/bulimic, but she still had one of the best voices in 70s pop, and her voice (contrary to her life choices and ultimately her
"Auschwitz-like" appearance), is still one of the sexiest I've ever heard.
Very left-field imo. So left-field that she flew under the radar for a whole lot of people like me, who now have had epiphanies and realize her worth.
